Guy's, Check out Pete's Pilots in GB...his web address is: http://petespilots.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/
Also Ace's of Iron are real nice, but I don't think they offer a full figure as yet: http://www.acesofiron.com/home.htm I personally prefer Pete's Pilots...they just seem to look right in a warbird. But then, that's just my opinion, Rob / Pickupsticks |
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
the tricky part is to paint the pilot....
I"ve only painted one pilot in my life and it looks horrible! any paint tip? |
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
Take a look at the tips on this page. You can have a realistic pilot too..

RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
LOL.....
noway that i can paint such a nice pilot figure! anyway....i will do my best...maybe i post a picture of the pilot when it"s finished?? |
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
Colibri4, Sure you can, just do it step by step. It may not look as perfect as the pics on the website, but I bet it will look pretty darn good! It just takes a bit of patience. I'll bet you thoughtthat before you built your first airplane too?
Go for it! Rob |
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
if i"m honest i actually was a little doubtful that i would build a successful airplane....but i was wrong...my trainer flew like a dream!
I guess that i just have to be a little patient! wish me good luck! |

I"m sitting here and painting a pilot (not a scale pilot) right now! The painting goes just fine!....it is a lot easier then i tought it would be. Dont be afraid to paint wrong....just go for it! |
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
Aren't GI Joes about 1/7 scale? It seems like I should be able to just take the head off one and the uni to make a full figure pilot.
|
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
I think GI JOe is 1/5 or 1/6
|
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
Most of the action figures are 12 inches. The equates to 6' in 1/6 scale and smaller in 1/5 and larger scales.

RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
The problem with most of the "GI Joe" type figures is that alot of the the detail uniform/equipment wise is not in scale with the figure. This is unfortunately true with too many model pilot figures. Also, one thing that I have noticed with figures with actual cloth clothing is that the weave is for 1:1 scale while the figure is 1/6, 1/4 or whatever...it just doesn't drape properly and makes the figures look out of proportioned or something. A figure that is molded is generally more scale overall...but then the problem is regardless of how well it's molded...it has to be painted well to make the better characteristics of the mold apparent...if that makes sense? Of course I'm talking totally in objective terms here...I don't knock anyone for using a GI Joe, or a badly painted Aces of Iron either for that matter. I don't knock anyone who makes the effort to BUILD a model regardless of the results acheived. On the other hand, the guy that comes to the field with his new warbird ARF and talking about how scale it is...well, he will get my sneers and smirks, and maybe even a peice of my mind if he's one of those obnoxious types...you know the type I mean. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against ARF's either...I've even owned a couple of them. But you hve to take them for what they are, and they are not scale models...at least in my opinion. They are great for getting folks into the air quickly, and for guy's who don't have the time to build their own...heck some of them are actually really good airplanes. Anyway, I'm geting off topic so I'll shut up.

RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
I dont take the hobby that serious to knock anyone for anything , I am just glad to see a fellow modeler flying what ever they like and what ever they can afford for what ever reason . I have nerver met anyone in this hobby I did not like and I have never passed judgemnet on a fellow modeler .

RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
I don't pass judgement because of what someone may fly...I just pass judgement if someone is a jerk...and whether you want to admit it or not...there are some jerks walking this planet...and one or two of them even fly RC. I know because I've met them both :D Seriously though, I just got into the more detailed cmparison's because you never know "how scale" someone is talking unless they are very specific. I can't see spending 1,000 hours building and finishing a nice scale warbird, and then putting in Snoopy as the pilot..unless of course it's a Sopwith Camel! :D

RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
Ok Rob , I will agree with you on that one , O & G are nice pilots , I have seen many of them in standoff scale and scale planes but they seem scarce at retail and difficult to purchase
|
RE: Looking for Scale Pilot Figures
If you build a really nice Camel and put in a Cartoon character (regardless which one) or you put in a Pilot (again regardless which one) you have the difference between a Toy Airplane and a Scale Airplane IMHO.
