H9 Corsair with OS 1.08

I flew my H9 Corsair with an OS 1.08 (!!!) in it, 15-8 prop, SlimLine baffled muffler. Thanks to this site I thoroughly reinforced the firewall. thanks to my own ARF experience I reinforced the horizontal stab and rudder. Good fit with the wood to wood joints there , but lousy glue. I added wood to the horizontal stab.
I used Top Flite Corsair fixed gear wires, and as a matter of fact their landing gear blocks and converted it to fixed gear. With the big motor the only balancing needed to get it to balance as recommended here was the battery to the rear of the wing saddle opening.
Reading the ARF bashing was entertaining. I love the time they save, warts and all. Incidentally I've seen kits that miss scale outline by a mile, too. The junk retracts get tiresome, they should just leave them out like EZ does. I wish EZ made more planes, even being tough to repair they are beautiful and fly great.
The Corsair flew great, lots of power, great hi-speed passes and rolls, then slows up like a Sig Kadet to land. It threatens to tip stall but doesn't.
If you've never owned a 1.08 OS you're missing out.Easy hand starting, super idle, mid-range and transition. There's a reason they still make the old girl ! Doug

Good Morning Doug. A member of our club had the same setup as you/ only difference is he had century jet retracts in his plane . He flew it for about 3 months or so until the wing broke (i dont know all the details) in flight. The plane is now with the 'balsa gods' . May she R.I.P.!! LOL

I know what you mean about the 1.08. I've got one in my AKRO and I never need to let it out full. Tons of power. It's a treat to run.

It's a great motor. I wish all engines were so trouble free.
I worry about the wing joints, too. If the plane lives through the summer,or maybe sooner, I'll get another wing, glass all the joints, and put in some high dollar retracts.
Will I ever run out of things to spend money on for this hobby ? I doubt it.
Doug

Truly one of OS Engines best!

I run mine on a Jett .90, which is also a great match for the plane.

I'll bet that Jett really rips. Is there a big learning curve with the Jetts ? I know they've got a ton of power, but heck I've thought about buying one just because they're so pretty ! Doug

Nothing special to learn Doug. All of the Jett sport engines are very user friendly. No special fuel, no special proceedures.

Either the SJ-90L or BSE-120L works great in the Corsair, especially paired with the turbo-jett muffler.

Hey Thanks for replying. I've gotta get another project going to justify buying one of those beauties. I've been thinking of the Skyshark 109 with that .90 in it . zzzziiiing ! Doug

The sport jett engines run very well. They start easy, are easy to needle (if your using the right prop, in the right rpm range), idle and transition great. Dubb will answer any of your questions and is very easy to get a hold of, so will Bob. Some of the best customer support out there.

My only issue with the Jett are the mufflers, the turbo jett works good, but is not really an in-cowl type muffler like a slimline or brison. What I mean is that it is a bit bigger and not easily hidden in many planes. Thankfully, the Corsair has a huge cowl, and only a small part of the muffler sticks out the bottom.

Dave is correct. They are different than most common pitts type incowl mufflers. But these are also tuned exhausts.

Dub redesigned the turbos recently, mainly to address the application fit issues.

They are now what we call the 'pancake' configuration. The 10cc and 15cc versions are about .3" shallower, and just slightly (.25") larger in diameter.

Attached are a few application examples (I have Dave's corsair here too). These are all the original versions.
