I have to butcher the cowl quite a bit, and have enlarged the exhaust hole a bit for better cooling.
I had the same arangement on my now dead extra 300 which had this engine in it. |

I was going to buy a new alu spinner tomorrow for it, but then I found this black spinner I had bought by mistake some time ago.
I suppose it looks scale, maybe even more than a "standard" alu spinner.. Honestly, what do you think about it ? keep or toss ? [8D] |

What retracts you putting in her SJN?
I have one of these in a box (still) and the only thing I am unsure of is what retracts to go for and how to strengthen up the area for them, so any details and pix would be welcome.... I have been switching my mind between the Flair heavy duty mechanicals or pneumatics Eurokits/Robarts, but are not sure how much modification would be needed to get any to fit. |

Im going to use "large" eurokit retracts with 6mm piano rod legs in mine.
I will have to carve a litle wood out of the beams for them to fit. I plan on re-inforcing the joints with some glue and maybe glass..... |

I have one in the basement for this winter and am looking for some reviews on the plane, building, power used etc. I think I am going to use the ST 91 I have or get ahold of a 120 4 stroker. Not too sure which retracts to use and all the rest of the stuff that comes up with a new project. Please let us know how she flies.. Have you seen thier new P-40 140? I saw a pic on the website but no one had one at Toledo.. the people that had the CMP kits there didn`t know a thing about the P-40 Or it seems any of the other kits..

I too look at this bird but pass it by based on the fact that it looks too stuby! In the air, it looks good but on the ground looks not quite right. I give all my scale ARFs completetly makeover so I want to have the best possible outline before I buy the bird. Interestingly, the Hellcat looks very scale and the P-51 and the FW-190 are very poor in outlines ven thought they are stand-off scale. If you like decent scale warbirds that only scale nuts would know about outline problems, consider the Hurricane by KMP (made in China). Amazingly scale outline. KMP is coming out with a late model Spitfire that is also near perfect scale. Also, CMP is coming out with very accurate P-40 ARFs and VQ Models too. This tells me that fiberglass bodies are the only way to go for an accurate body profiles. Dai |

Hi,
I have had the CMP Spit for just over a year and it's a great flier. I used an ASP 1.20 4-st with a 15 x 8 MAS and it has plenty of grunt. This engine starts much easier than my mates OS 1.20 pumper and is easily as quick in the air. I used Robart 609HD mechanical retracts. Because they are 85 deg, they give a slightly wider track than 90 degree ones would and it's therefore a bit more stable on the ground. I set all the surface deflections to the instructions and have them on 30% rates and 60% expo. This is plenty for scale like flying. The stock wheels were a bit small I felt, so upped them to 3.75" dia, removed the moulded wheel wells and sheeted them in instead. I'm also using Unitracts 13mm oleos which help a bit with my bumpy landings............. Pete |

The spit for what you pay is most impressive. I passed on the spit. Now, it may have been a mistake, since I can pick them up in person and save on shipping (out of stock now)and I consider the airframe the disposable part. The hardware normally will survive. But. . For the price and size you can't beat it.' I didn't get one because the H stab was non airfoiled, the fuse Vstab looked a bit like a slab of balsa instead of a molded glass airfoil. I also think that I may wait for the P-40 CMP. I have two of the CMP Zeros and that model has airfoils everywhere. Again, I could easily change what I don't like, but just wait, these ARF companies are starting to get the picture. Steve |

You're gonna love this plane Sonnich, and you'll love it even more with a 1.20 4-stroke in it. The sound at full chat with a 15x8 or even a 16x8 is awesome. Someone at our club had a 14x7 3-blader and it looked crap - too small.
This plane was made for fast low passes and big lazy loops/rolls etc. Pete |

This was going to be my "low budget" spitfire thus using all the spare parts, engine, servos, that I had lying around. But im stuck on the retracts......im just not satisfied with the stuff I have lying around. I think ill bite the bullit, and order the "right stuff" from century jet models. They make a complete set of retracts, minus the wheels for this very plane. Giant Scale Spitfire 71 inch (31899) they are called. http://www.centuryjet.com/ |

btw, I glued the flaps on permanently on mine.

Man...why do these whimpy 60 size great planes retracts fit like a glove.
4mm struts just wont hold up on a grass field.... |

The flaps are so small they are pretty useless anyway so you won't much by fixing them. They're just fun to play with that's all.
Have you thought about fuelproofing? I coated mine with a matt fuelproofer rather than have 'orrible oily marks all over it. Pete |
