PLEASE HELP,,, Engine Mount Question
I have been building the new CMP P-40 arf and have hit a bump......
The plane has come with a piece of crap antivibration engine mount..... I went out and got a better one from dave brown but the problem is that if I use a anti-vibration mount... it will raise the level of the engine thereby offsetting the spinner.... when they made the plane they lined it up for a direct mount only..... so why include the vibra mount??? I included some pics..... Do you guys think the wooden mount is strong enough to mount the engine (150 Saito 4S) direct???? remember this plane has a fiberglass fuse. please help http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/p407.jpg http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/p408.jpg http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/p409.jpg http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/p4010.jpg http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/p4011.jpg http://www.members.aol.com/fldmshlschroe/p4012.jpg If I mount the engine direct it lines up just fine. |
RE: PLEASE HELP,,, Engine Mount Question
you'll get more informed opinions but:
I've read that if you "lose" the anti-vibration component, you'll be just fine. :D |
RE: PLEASE HELP,,, Engine Mount Question
I have this plane but have not started yet . How about this .
Add ply reinforcement to the bottom of the current engine rails so they are thicker .Run this from front end to the first former , at leaset 1/2 thick . Now use a dremel tool , and burrow down a neat perfact slot for the clearance of the anti vibration mounts . This way you still have a good thick base to mount the engine but you also have a nice cavaity to allow for the anti vibration mounts . |

I remember that in my wm p40 w/ only a .82 saito I got glitches at low rpms due to vibrations... Reinforced w/ additional ply below. Thanks for the help all. |
