Canopy Question

Hi All

This may be a silly question but I would like to know how to paint my canopy? Should I use masking tap? Or should I use a small brush and paint by hand? Any photos of the process would be helpful.

Thanks

RE: Canopy Question

To get a nice crisp canopy frames, I use electrical tape and tape off, what will be, the clear portions of the canopy. Then I go with 3 coats of primer to help build up the canopy framing, scuff with a scotch-brite, and then apply finish paint coat. Works well.

RE: Canopy Question

Don't use tape of any kind as it leavs adhesive and will collect dust over time.... use a liquid mask any home inprovement center will have it. Use a good brush and put on three coats, then with a sharp and pointed #11 blade, cut out the frame, peal out the mask and spray several light coats of paint, If you want the frame to be flat in coller you have to do this on the out side, A WORD OF CAUTION be sure to select a paint that does not soften the canapy material, it can cause your canapy to curl up[>:]

Good luck

RE: Canopy Question

To remove residual adhesive (if any) from the clear canopy, polish with Rosonal lighter fluid, just be careful not to hit the paint.

Do NOT use Monokote Luster Coat on Canopies. It will curl them. don;t ask me how I know or how long it took me to find out what the problem was. You can read the VERY fineprint on the can. I've had really good luck with the Master Modler (?) paints. I think they're by Testors.

Strange I've used Topflite Lustrecote on lots of canopies and they all come out fine (ie not a hint of deformation)

cheers

you can get fine line tape from and automotive store for painting it leaves great lines and comes in multiple widths and LEAVES NO ADHESIVE FILM!!!! this stuff is cool because you can form around corners as well!!

RE: Canopy Question

Cooking oil (Mazola or olive oil) will remove masking tape residue without harming the plastic.
I contacted the manufacturer of the tape product and asked them, then I tried it...it works!
