Model Tech P-51
 

I recently bought a MT P-51 .46 size and flew it for the first time today. It flew smooth with a little trimming and a lot of nerves going through me. I liked it, but it seems a little slow. I have a Magnum 91 4 stroke and wonder if it will fit. Any suggestions on if it will fit or what other engines I can pop in this bad boy to get some speed!?!?!?!? I have a Magnum 46 (2 stroker) in it with an 11x6 prop.

The Magnum .91 four stroke will not fit (too long). The largest four stroke that will barely fit is the Saito 72. If you want speed, stick a supercharged YS 63 in it. It swings a 12x7 prop at 11,500 rpm. Check out videos of my Kyosho Zero and Dymond F8F Bearcat on my website.

Thanks for the info. I think the .46 Magnum may be shot anyway. I don't have any recp't or paperwork, but I will see what Magnum will do for me. I have had good customer service from them. I will also look into those other motors or just buy a bigger plane that will accompany a larger engine for more speed.

There's your problem. It's a small clean airframe. 10x7 APC if you want it to scoot. If it doesn't, your Magnum isn't doing what it should and needs replacing with a TT Pro or O.S. AX, et al. You really don't need more engine than a 2 stroke .46 for this model to make it perform well both in terms of either outright speed or vertical transition. But if you must have more, any of the .46 cased .52 thru .56s should do the trick!

Rogo, I have this p-51. I love the way it flys. I powered mine with a magnum 46 and wish I put something a little bigger in it. I was thinking of a tower 61 or 75. They will both fit with a little cutting and reinforcing. I crashed mine - Rookie error. Put the wrong prop on it and forgot. Classic stall etc. Good luck.

I was also going to try and mount the mag91 4 st in it. Knew I'd do lots of remodelling in the nose area, just why is it to long? I'm not sure I see that yet. Read some reviews that had a XL-61RFS and found to be a somewhat non performer. Taking off that flapper valve looked like a area to get some room back, cowling is going to be an issue though. Are 4 stroke engines just a little underpowered for this plane anyway?

Believe me, the nose is too short for a big 4-stroke. Even with the Saito 72, the firewall has to be carved around the carb area to prevent the carb from rubbing. Try sticking your Magnum 91 four stroke in the engine bay. The YS 63 four stroke will not be underpowered for this plane.

thanks for the reply, just took all the engine measurements and your right, the engine bay is 5/16 to short measured with the engine carb touching the fiirewall. Are you flying the YS 63 in your plane?

I had a Saito 72 in it. If I had to do it over again, I would use a YS 63 since it's physically smaller but more powerful.

I have a 60-90 size version of this ARF.
It was given to me, somewhat incomplete. It looks pretty old.

There are no instructions, and it looks like some of the plastic parts might be missing.
Does anybody know where I can find more information on this ARF? I've really looked
hard, yet I always come up shorthanded. Kinda sucks to have a partial plane.

Even the ModelTech website does not acknowledge it's existance.
Everywhere else talks about the .46 sized version
