Topflite P-40 Landing gear
 

I have the wing panels joined and the landing gear attached. I am using fixed gear on mine to keep it simple. I do see that the fixed and retractable gear install in much the same manner. My question is, have any of you guys reinforced the the two rails that the gear assembly screw on to? It seems to me that the way it is now it won't take too many hard landings. Not to say I land hard but there is the occasional "head up the butt" mishap.

I am at that stage in construction also. Can't decide whether or not to beef it up. Hopefully someone with past experience will help us out.

I went ahead and added triangle stock to the bottom of the plate that glues to the wing rib. I think that should do it.

I was thinking the exact same thing! Keep in touch with your progress, it's nice to know someone building the same aircraft.

The Gear in the TF P-40 is very weak (built 2 of them) You need to use a Ply Doubler at least 1/4" thick on the inboard side of both gear ribs so you have a good strong mount for the gear. The Gear blocks simply glue down top the 1/4" ply doublers. makes for a very strong gear without a lot of weight. otherwise the gear will easily pull out.

My buddy has a T.F. p-40. Landing gear is VERY weak. He's ripped the gear from the wing 3 times.
