Hey Scott.

Is that P-51 cockpit kit from DBalsa? I just received one for my H9 150 size P-51 and it looks like a TON of work. I was hoping it was more of an ARF type kit, but it isn't. There are probably 150 pieces to put together which means lots of time required to build it! [:'(]

Your cockpit is looking good and good luck finishing it. Any tips for me?

Thanks,

Mike

I opted for the Saito 180 (one came my way at a decent price!) :D

Mike yeah that is the dbalsa cockpit... more work in this than there is in the plane :) So far I'd say it looks worse than it is... plenty of balsa packing behind the panels as they're very thin. Once you've started and it begins to come together it looks better than you think it will! The instruments themselves are a joke... I was expecting more for the money (like self adhesive!!) but I think I can source some that'll fit from Graupner.

I did raise the floor enough to clear the pushrods as I didn't want to relocate them and the servos which means you have to remove quite a bit from the side panels and poor old Donald has lost his parachute so he sits low enough.

Only other thing I'd say is watch how much of the existing structure you remove.. I took some bits out I ended up putting back. Also I just printed off the photos from the dbalsa website and worked from them.. much easier than trying to follow the instructions!

Good Luck!

Scott

OK, thanks for the info! I am not going to change servo locations period, so I will do what you did and modify the kit to the plane. I will use the PICS from their website as you suggested.

Thanks again for the help,

Mike

Just curious , where are you going to put your airtank when you get to fit Robarts retracts ?

Anybody tried the Century Jet cockpit kit? Their basic kit is pretty affordable, and the full kit around $70 I think.

Well, after some more head-scratching, self-mutilation and single malt (purely medicinal :D) the cockpit's finally coming together ;)

Hey Scott.

Looking good. Looks like a LOT of work to put that cockpit kit together! Keep the pictures coming. Are you going to install a pilot too?

It would be GREAT if you could remove the pilot for sitting in the pit area - shame to cover up all that work.

Hey Mike,Look on you tube under 1glwingnut and look for video of my H9 Stang. It will be under Franks Mustang FB2 and FB3 and nice flying. One of the guys I fly with took video of my bird With a Saito 180 doing fly-byes at our warbird day. it was very nasty and cold that day. Frank

Yeah I have the "Donald Moore" BBI pilot for it. Once I do a little more weathering he'll be in place :D

Hey Flyboy.

Thanks for the heads up on the video. I checked it out and that was cool to see the P-51 fly around and then the low pass. Very cool.

thanks, Mike

Well... one pilot almost ready for the final install. Its a shame he covers so much of the work up but it'd look plain stupid without him.... :D

Hey Scott.

Very nice work! Your Mustang is looking great with that cockpit and especially the pilot.

Great job and thanks for posting the pictures!

Loving that pilot, you happy with the size relative to the airframe?

There are some on ebay UK for around US$30.

Guys,

Thanks for the kind words, makes the effort worth it :D

CRG... yeah he's a decent size, besides he looks better than a latex bust. Once its in the air it won't matter, its never going to be a scale model anyway ;) I got mine on eBay UK, it came from China in less than a week for £15 plus postage. For a US pilot search ebay under William Bowman.. he might look better but he's rare, expensive and very difficult to find! I think he's a B17 pilot but the markings on his jacket are obscured in the cockpit.

I ordered Donald this morning, and the Dynamic Balsa cockpit short kit. Will give me something to do over the holidays.

That 'kit' will take you some time to finish - but well worth the cost and time; they produce excellent cockpit kits....

I got the short kit only, figured it would be better than nothing and is more affordable. Will be away for christmas with little to do so might take the parts along and paint them.

Hey CRG.

If you need something to do, I have a D Balsa kit for my H9 Mustang that you could build for me. Just thought I might ask! The kit looks like a ton of work, I had NO idea! Scott's is looking good though.

I'm not quite that much of a masochist. Still have to do a full kit for the B-25 too.

Got my cockpit kit today. It's only the short kit but there is a LOT of stuff. Am kinda glad I didn't go for the full kit.
