How should this mount?

Trying to work out my potential engine mounting tactics for a G62 in my SBD prior to purchasing the engine. I've put together an illustration that shows the G62 sideview overlayed on a shot of my SBD plans.
The 1/4" plywood firewall (shown in red) has a big balsa firewall/cowl ring that goes around the perimeter of the firewall. If I line the spinner plates up between the plan and the G62 drawing, it shows me that I'll need to cut a small hole in the cowl bottom for the spark plug. My question is this... I've shown the "engine mount" in green, and I've got about 1.5" of space here to work with, keeping the spinner plates aligned. I think that the B&B cup mount is longer than 1.5" so I'll probably have to build something out of wood. A friend told me he's just used a regular 2x4 for a mounting block on all 3 of his G62 planes, and cut a hole in the center of the 2x4, and mounted the stock back plate to it. Is this the best method? Any other ideas? Thanks, Neo |

Couple of suggestions/questions,
1. If you plan on using the B&B mount with spring starter a. Slide firewall back further into Fuse and build up balsa cowl ring to appropriate thickness b. cut out center of firewall where engine is and build a inverted engine box 2. If using electronic ign. laminate firewall spacers with 1/4" or 1/2" aircraft ply to the thickness you require Hope this helps Lee |
How should this mount?
The wood block (plywood is better) works, but adds more weight. For most warbirds that's not a bad thing. It's also easy to mount ignition batteries, weights, smoke systems, etc to the wood.
Lots of people use "standoffs" similar to the ones on the attached web site - can be any length and are recommended by many. One of our club members is a machinist, so I usually just use drilled round aluminum stock cut to length with a large washer next to the wood. http://www.aerografixs.com/ Hope this helps, Dave |

Can't move the firewall... the fuse is already done. Not using a spring starter or electronic ignition either. Non of the G62's at my field (and there's a bunch of 'em) are using them. They tell me they start too easy to mess with that stuff. http://www.renderwurx.com/rc/SBD/html/build2.htm Canman, The Aerografixs stuff looks pretty neet, but I don't know if it will work with my tight space requirements (1.5" MX).
