RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Joe,
I am working on the wings now and getting the retracts bays ready for the Hanger 9 P-47 retracts. I have a question about the elevator servo's. I installed them in the fuselage in the wing cradle area just behind the fuel tank. I am using 4 -40 rods attached to 3/8" wood dowels to reach the elevators. I have the dowels insided the fuselage so the 4 - 40 rods had to be a little long to reach the elevators. Do you think the 4 -40 rods will be stiff enough to control the elevators? |
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
From reading this post and others does anyone know if Bass Pro sells 1lb lead weights? I think I my need a couple of them to balance this plane. I am also going to be moving my elevator servo's to the H-Stab like the others have done. I think it is best. The rods from the fuselage to the elevator I installed is a little to long for my liking[:@]

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Well I found 1lb lead weights at Bass Pro and I will use them to balance this plane. I will build a weight box on the bottom of the motor mount firewall to hold the weights.;)
I also have decided to go another route on the retracts. I have heard the Hanger 9 150 P-47 retracts just don't hold up in the long run. I have forund a nice retract set for a Russian LA-7 at Troy Built that will do the job and they come with wheels. The set is complete and they cost only $140.00. Here is a link to them for anyone who is intrested.:D http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/ESMLA7-80LG.html |
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Very nive thread!
No news about electric... I selected an AXI 5345/14 behind 12s2p a123 under the hood. No CG problem ;-) |
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Ramboman,
What does your Zero weigh in at? What retacts did you go with? I hope to post some pic's today of my build. I should be done with the fuselage and wings today. I will not have the retracts in until they arrive Monday. Mine will be around 20lbs I think;) Sounds heavy but others say 20lbs seems to be the weight it takes to balance this plane. It will still fly very well at the weight. I have a Skyshark P-40 with less wing area and it weighs 21.5 lbs and flys great:D |

Here are a few more pics of how I mounted my Briellei 46GT & Batteries to the motor mount on the firewall;)

Mine is close to 20lb., may have given a wt earlier in the thread, it fly’s great at that wt.. the engine is still rich. Just need to remember to carry T to the ground.

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Joe,
Great looking Zero;) What engine and retacts did you use? |
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Jim, Zenoha G-62 & Century jet Focke Wulf 190 retracts. The retracts I bought used then had to replace the 74 degree camb with a 85 degree camb.

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
With your servo's in the horizantal stabilizer and a G-62 up front did you have to add and weight to the nose? I really hope my ESN landing gear from Troy Built models will hold up to a 20lbs war bird. :D
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Will I got my LA-7 landing gear in today from Troy Built and they look great. They come with 4" wheels that should be the right size for this Zero;) I also got some hardwood sticks from lowes today to strengthen the landing gear area in the wings. I'll post some pics of the gear when I can:D

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Jim How did your ESM landing gear work out? Thanks Rich
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
The ESM landing gear looks to be stonger gear than the Hanger 9 P-47 gear I was going to use. It is about the same length as the Hanger 9 gear so the modes I did for that gear will work out for the ESM LA-7 gear. I have been busy this week with other things so I have not installed them yet. I hope to get started installing them tomorrow or Monday. They come with real nice 4" wheels that will be more to scale than the little stock ones in the kit.;)

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Anyone know where I might get a cowl for this bird?? THANKS,RACJ
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Nitroplanes sells this cowl for $38.00 but they are out of stock know. I would send them a e-mail to see when they my be back in stock. Here is the link to the cowl.;)

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
THANKS Jim. That musta been a lotta work typing all that. I'll check Monday and see if I can backorder to assure I get one.If not maybe they notify me when in stock. THANKS,RACJ

RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Check with Alex at www.AK-MODELS.com Sometimes he has parts available...
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
THANKS,I'll try them Monday too. Surprised no one's asked me why I needed a new cowl.:D
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Why do you need a new cowl? ;-))
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
The cowl on mine is perfect, not a scratch just cut for the gasser. I'm thinking of changing to electric in the future(never thought I'd say that on large warbirds) and I'd like to get a cowl in case I do. THANKS
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
See post 258: I am building it with electric power...

I Well I finally have one of the ESM landing gear mounted to a wing. :D Here are a few pics of the ESM gear and the wing it is mounted to. Now I am working on the other wing than I'll mount the air tank and swith into the fuselage.;)
|
RE: CMP giant scale Zero build
Thanks ramboman,I'll follow your progress and it should help me make a decision. I'm going electric with my 60 to 1.20 stuff I'm just not sure how large I want to go. Given weight needed to balance this bird you ought to be able to put enough MAH in her to fly for an hour. LOL
