RE: top flite spitfire build
Just reading old messages, be careful when you weather her, it is very easy to get carried away and make it look ready for the scrap heap, weathering helps when hangar rash appears and it will, just leave the damage in the glass cloth and make an issue of it, on field patch up as they did.

RE: top flite spitfire build
All topflight Spitfire builders please read and ammend your models before and after the build, in respect of the country that stood up to be counted when we all needed it.
I was confused, I went and googled your flag and found the red is also before the blue on googles site search. I can not remeber the box art but there is a possibility the erorr is on my part, the badge / flag is round and I may have applied it in the wrong orientation. ( I then went to you tube to see the real bird and all was revealled) Copy / paste the link below and yes, the badge as you correctly stated is incorrect. I did not doubt you, let face it if you don't know, no one will. I was just curious and ended up getting the flag from google the same as my model. Then I had to see the real deal, If possible I will be rectifying my model and will post you the results, this sort of thing is annoying and is basic research by topflite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...E0oBigYk#t=42s Flag when I 1st googled it is rthe same as the model <br type="_moz" /> |

ORIGINAL: vik I just don“t understand how gentlemans from Top Flite modified our flag  This is the plane it shall represent it Anyway the blue is alway in front and red is down :) Someone should tell them, I dont think this was intentional but the flag is misplaced also in the cover of the "Spitfire in action" book (I think is the same one topflite used as a reference for the painting), it could be easily mistaken from the b&w pictures, here is the picture. |

Cristian;<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">I got as close as I could with trying to match the engine cowl, canopy and cannon blister paint with the flat Olive drab and Tan Monokote covering. It looks very close with the naked eye but not so close of a match when a digital photo is taken. As far as I am concerned, it’s good enough for me to do the maiden flight in May. The Spit weights in at 9lbs 8oz with a gas Saito FG-20, Robart air retracts and struts, flaps and radiator scoops. This TF Spitfire sure makes my H9 Spitfire look like a lame duck. I can’t wait to compare the flying quality of TF with the H9. Just in case you have a keen eye, the cannon blisters were installed after the photo was taken.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Roger

RE: top flite spitfire build
getting ready to sell my spit it just sits on the rack collecting dust keep your eyes out for the listing, its basically a arf just needs a engine, and a receiver.
I hate selling any of my planes, but I also hate seeing it just sit collecting dust any one in Calif near the bay area looking for a TF spit PM me with a reasonable offer,I would even entertain selling it without servos but as it sits its really close to RTF, shipping would be a pain but I could do it for the right price its set up with all new Futaba 3004 servos, Robart retracts with Robo struts, flaps, full cockpit no pilot, glassed with .56oz cloth, and all painted insignia's |
RE: top flite spitfire build
Hi Roger.
I am glad to hear you have found a paint mach for the monokote scheme! It looks great on the picture and I bet it will look even better in the air. What paints did you finally use? We will be waiting for your maiden resport, try to take a video of it! Congratulations on your spit and good luck with the maiden! |
RE: top flite spitfire build
Hi Cristian: I used Humbrol Acrylic Tan and Olive green paint. I added white paint to lighten each color until it looked like a match. The C of G was spot on as listed in the instruction manual. I will wait until after the maiden flight to add the gear doors.
I am having a bit of trouble with the left Robart retraction cylinder. It will not retract or extend when the air pressure drops below 85psi. The left piston seems to be binding a bit compared to the right piston. Unfortunately I tried to order just the piston assembly through the local hobby shop but no luck. According to the hobby shop personnel the only way to replace the cylinder is to order a complete landing gear retraction set, which I find unacceptable. Roger |
RE: top flite spitfire build
Roger,
One time, I called Robart directly and they sold me a little piece I broke out of one retract that I was installing for a friend. May be shipping charges were a little to high but, I did not have to purchase the whole retract. Give them a call. Pedro |

RE: top flite spitfire build
Hi guys...i just picked up one of these kits the other day at my local model shop, alais i have never built a kit like this before!...but have built probably 100's of airplanes including many ESM warbirds in the past...looks daunting...http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../msn/75_75.gif..but i'll take my time & do the best i can!.
I have decided to seal & paint mine when finished...& will go for the recommended Robart landing gear. I do have an OS 120e..but that's in an KMP Hurricane, looking at a Laser 120 & the advised 91 4~s i should be ok there & also benefit from the hidden exhausts on these marvels. Folks..if mine turns out half as good as your spits i'll be very happy!!.. Regards Marc |
RE: top flite spitfire build
HI Marc,
Welcome to the Spitfire community. I still need to finish mine. I just need to take care of more important issues at this time and keep the wife happy. But, we are here most of the time checking this and other threads. Pedro |
RE: top flite spitfire build
Welcome Mark, good to hear of another spitfire build!!
This was my first kit and I have learned a lot from it, I am still finishing details on her before the maiden flight, but the plane really looks great! take a look on the other threads, specially at these one at page 26 ([link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1403165/mpage_26/key_/tm.htm[/link]) the stab setting is wrong in the plans and I don't know if TF has fixed that yet. Great choice about the engines, they look great specially for tight cowls like these. Keep your build posted, looking forward to see your spit coming up!! Cristian |
