hurricane lost

SO SAD, on this, our Battle of Britain day, at an airshow, a Hawker Hurricane fighter has crashed, pilot and aircraft lost, great sorrow,
my heart goes out to the family of the pilot, who died doing what he loved

2007 has not been a good year for the Warbirds or their pilots and families...

God bless.

A sad event indeed. This year we have lost many WWII planes and pilots.
My prayers are with them and their families too.

It was not one of the BBMF aircraft, but the link is well worth exploring

We have lost 3 pilots in four days at the Reno air races. Not war birds but tragic none the less. This is a dangerous buisness.

This has been the year of the airshow type crashes. One right after another. Redbull is next week

RE: hurricane lost

redbull is a disaster waiting to happen. airshows now hold such high insurance claims that they are shutting down all over the country

Very sad news.

Does anyone know which Hurricane it was?
It was G-HURR, previously with the RAC at Breighton (sp?) and painted all black. If I'm not mistaken the airplane had recently been purchased by Tom Blair and was recently refinished into an RAF day scheme.

leaves me speechless, my uncle who was in the army during ww2 and in the battle of the bulge died friday.

IMO these warbirds are flown aggressivly and thay is to thrill the crowds. 10 years ago we were happy with flybys and low stress maneuvers. The pilots who fly them are not young men for the most part and maybe the g force overwhelms. I think we should fly warbirds but keep it low key to save these flying museum pieces

Dear Mr Thompson,

I think you may need to check your facts, if necessary you can look at the video of the display on youtube - these aircraft were not being flown agressively - they were flying carefully chorographed gentle circuits.

Speculation not based on facts is not helpful.

Best regards

Jason

I was there....

It was an amazing display, 6 Spitfires, 2 Hurricanes, 2 ME108's and a ME109 all in a mock dog fight.
Not gentle, but with 11 warbirds over an airfield, there was choreogography.
Saw the hurricane go in and was stunned.... really humbling experience to see it and be there.

The spits formed in minutes and flew in a "man missing in action" formation which was very emotional.
Crowd was very subdued after and applauded every pilot who flew.

Total respect !!

Having been at barton, when the mosquito went in, i know how you must have felt, its a horrible expeiance, and not one i would ever want to see again, keep them flying, but, remember how prescious they are

We have also lost three aviators this week at the Reno Air races. Luckily, Jason Somes, survived his midair Friday where Gary Hubler was killed instantly when his Formula 1 racer <MAria" Hit Jason's "Alley Cat." Jason is still in the hospital with severe head, face and eye injuries. Jason is also one of the best RC pilots . He flew The Huges Racer in the movie "The Aviator"
