My 12 foot Sunderland
 

Just wanted to share my scratch built 12 foot span Sunderland seaplane..It was a sub hunter in WWII..This model is electric powered.The Fuse is 9 1/2 feet long,it weighs in around 20 pounds ready to fly..The plane is almost done,much further along now than the pics..I also slipped in a pic of my scratch HE162 also electric DF...

I'm sure this question has been answered somewhere but since we don't have FAQs here goes. How do you hook up multiple ESCs which have BECs? Is that enough acronyms? I would like to control the motors separately also. Please include a wiring diagram if possible or necessary.

To hook up more than one esc that will also power the RX,you just pull the signal wire out of the plug that goes to the RX..Im running esc`s that dont power the radio gear..They are hooked up with 2 Y harness cables then another Y harness to connect to the RX..You can control motors sep. by setting up your second or second set of motors on you Aux channel..This plane has over 20 feet of wire in it just to get power to my esc`s..My batts are in the nose of the plane..Im running e-flite 32 outrunners,swinging 12.5 X 5.5 props..I dont run e-props..The motors run great on standard props..They are much more powerfull than .32 glow motors..I dont know how they rate these things,but they arent right...lol..

3dr: I think you misspoke. When running multiple BECs you pull the RED wire from the leads that goe to the rx (or Y harness) on all but one. If you pull th signal (usually white) the esc won't work (cause it's not getting a signal.

I ecently read a psot that suggests it's okay to have mor than one bec hooked up as they will compliment, not fight, eac h otehr. However it's the only such coment I've ever read; everything else says to do what I've written above.

Thanks guys! I have heard that with brushless motors it's emperative to run a separate ESC for each motor. I guess it's acceptable to power each ESC with it's own lipo batt. I can't see that being a conflict.

Thats what Im running..I have 4 lipo`s in it..Actually I needed 3 pounds of weight in the nose and the 4 batts took care of that perfect.

Powering each esc/motor with its own LiPo could lead to an asymetric power outage just like th wet guys experience. Most multis are all connected to a single battery.

On my four motor bomber I am connecting the two outboard motors to one batt and the two inboard to another. Either pair would provide enough power to land.

I have been running multi engine ducted fans and props for a while like this and no trouble..But I dont run them that low..I have never run them dead..I test my static run time on the ground with diff batts..But I also fly multi-engine wet power..Have delt with engine outs.Its a pain but doable...

Im back...lol..I think thats who the plans came from..I made changes as I built it, to make it a light plane..She is still around and has at least 20 flights on her..I have a video of it flying on youtube..My name on youtube is thetslam ..You can find it from their..Its actually getting flown again this week..

It flew very nice n scale, r u planning to make cowls for it and also to cover remaining exposed wood sections?

Do you have provision of asemetric thrust while taxing on the water?

The cowls have long since been done..As for the thrust issues..Cool thing about this plane as with the full scale aircraft, the wings have a bit of sweep to them and the engines point outward with the sweep instead of being straight ahead..It offsets the asymetric thrust with the motors on the left pointing left and the right pointing right..I ended up running 4, 3 cell 5000 mah batts..It gives it a run time of about 45 minutes..She will fly level at less than half power..I love to fly this bird..Next is a giant B-36..

I am flying a Great Planes RV-4 (56" span) with an E-32 and a 4S battery for power that weighs 6.25 lbs and flies at 1/2 power with ease for CL scale. WHen I had the E-32 on the test bench with an 4S battery, 12" electric prop I was getting 680 watts. The E-32 is a great motor....great choice.

I like the e-32 alot as well,bit high priced as with most e-flite motors but a good one no less...I didnt say what props I was running..Im running 12X6 3 blade master airscrew glow props..I run glow props on most of my larger scale stuff..
