Need help with hinge method
Hi again,
thats alrighty :D ... just when i saw the chewed up balsa... well... as much as i know, you have to move the gear doors forward a bit, take a look at some pony pictures, half of the wheel is covered with the gear doors... hope this helps... Jakob |

This has all been covered before, I have the same kit and am using BVM air cylinders to close the inner gear doors. Your doors are sitting back wards in the picture. They don't slide on the strut, you have to make an arm that works as 2 hinge points.

Need help with hinge method
dionysusbacchus,
thanks, I remember this thread well and your pics, but I still don't know what hinge you used or how you attached the door to the strut. Thats my $64,000 dollar question. Funny about the gear doors being backwards...I set them up according to some pics I was looking at |
Need help with hinge method
RCJones,
Unless you plan on doing inner gear doors also, I would recommend moving the outer doors toward the wheel axles and just fasten them to the struts. Then you won't have to hinge them at all. |
Need help with hinge method
Y'all,
I'm still confused. If I use Stick Jammer's plan then the door doesn't move away from the wheel in the open position. It is at a fixed distance from the strut at all times. dionysusbacchus, I like your door but I still can't see how you attached the door to the strut. I assume is slides since it has a fixed hinge on the end. we're almost there thanks |

Hi Buddy!
I used a 1/4 scale hinge at the wing to door area, then I used my own system for the "moving" hinge lower on the door. Just as the full scale door is hinged. I have shown all this before, but this is a good thread to post the info. This is the plan I drew for the door. |

Go to Tower Hobbies and type in "Robart gear door". If you don't want to make the gear door holder out of aluminum they sell one, it looks like this:
