Need recommendations for a HELLCAT

I am thinking on building a Hellcat either from plans or kit, no ARF recommendations please.

Since warbirds are not my expertise, I need recommendations on a good, if not best, Hellcat.

Size? I would say a medium (50cc gas) to small size (1.0 Glow) would be fine.

Scale? It does not have to be a Scale Masters contest type.

Thanks,
Pedro

For plans there are Jerry Bates 80" or Don Smith 86". Find a good kit cutter, precision cut kits maybe, if you don't want to cut the wood yourself.

I'm building an 80" F6F Hellcat from the Jerry Bates plans. I have a build thread at RCScalebuilder. There are three JB Hellcats being build currently and one of them is a 50% enlargement.

RE: Need recommendations for a HELLCAT

I second the Bates 80 hellcat. My builder friend will be starting my kit in about a week or so from now. For the shortkit that will be all laser cut, I got mine from Patrick at www.lasercutusa.com ....he does excellent work.

If you want one thats a little smaller than the Bates kit, there is a nice thread going on here by Chad Veich, his hellcat is a 60/90 size bird and can accept a 20cc gasser as well, and would be lots easier to transport. Ive got one of Chad's kits also still in the box and sure hope to start on it as soon as I clear a few other projects out. Chad designed his kit himself and he comes highly recommended.
I hope this helps some with your decision.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I am strongly considering going with the Jerry Bates 80" plans.

Pete,

I don't want to sound mean at all. But, that's an ARF. I know she looks good with a short time assembly time.

I am addicted to the emotions and feelings produced when you fly an airplane that you built from a pile of wood.

Thanks for the recommendation though.
