In need of detail, and pretty parts for your models?
It might just get a bit easier...

Yep, Umi, been watching that one. Not cheap, and who knows how suitable it would be as a combat hull, but, like you say, lots of nice detail. Wonder if they will sell any of the trim parts separately?

Cheers,

Wreno

mi, the WWCC takes pride in it's scale modeling ability (and I like to show off good photos). Are these ships pretty enough?

I'll admit that the Rodney is a bit much for what most people do. These are closer to the level most of my club strives to achieve (to varying degrees of success). Turret covers, secondary turrets, and major structures. Masts and lifeboats are common but not always present. Tertiary guns, AA guns, anchors and chains, and deck clutter are among the least common elements.

Of course, there are a few [link=http://www.westernwarshipcombat.com/index.php?set_albumName=album30&id=Mehosi_Mamiya_Maru&option=com_gallery&Itemid=85&include=view_photo.php]ugly ducklings[/link] and ships that like to show off their [link=http://www.westernwarshipcombat.com/index.php?set_albumName=album48&id=IMG_1556&option=com_gallery&Itemid=85&include=view_photo.php]naked guns[/link], and a close encounter with a bush is just [link=http://www.westernwarshipcombat.com/index.php?set_albumName=June-2005&id=No_Super_Structure&option=com_gallery&Itemid=85&include=view_photo.php]bad news[/link]. However, they don't have super tall turrets which provide a combat edge over scale ships and the skippers still try to make them look [link=http://www.westernwarshipcombat.com/index.php?set_albumName=album33&id=N_Normandie_1&option=com_gallery&Itemid=85&include=view_photo.php]decent[/link], and even [link=http://www.westernwarshipcombat.com/index.php?set_albumName=album48&id=IMG_1058&option=com_gallery&Itemid=85&include=view_photo.php]improve[/link] over time. We also don't object to a [link=http://www.westernwarshipcombat.com/index.php?set_albumName=album29&id=On_Your_Marks&option=com_gallery&Itemid=85&include=view_photo.php]ship[/link] running before it's superstructure is complete.

All good looking ships in your club.

I'm thinking doors, hatches and vent details on the supersturctures. Maybe railings on the upper deck levels.
Stuff you can scavange out of those kits and cast up for a constant supply of repacements.[8D]
Some nice rigging though. I often neglect to put the rigging back after a weekend of shooting.

I heard a rumor (unconfirmed) that the Soar Arts Yamato might sell in the neighborhood of $5000 ready to run. Anyone hear anything else?

I know it has been over 7 months since they announced this Yamato model, but have they actually put it into production yet?

The model looks spectacular, it looks like scenes taken staright out of the movie Otoko-tachi no Yamato.

Actually I know someone who purchased one of the display Yamatos & he was not at all happy with the detail & construction. Main compliant was theamount of plastic used where resin & photo etch should be. He didn't pay full price since it was damaged & offered at discount by the dealer who was importing them but still wasn't impressed with what he saw. I've been trying to assist him with getting replacement photo etch parts from TianJie to replace the plastic.

BTW, Soar Art has been selling their 1/144 Yamato & other display models for several years. No one knows when an RC version may appear & its probably nothing more than vaporware at this point.

Hundreds, thousands of dollars for relatively small, static stuff. Imagine what a full-fledged diorama of a WWII battle scene might cost to build (parts alone; never mind the time!).

And yet, people expect to put together a fully-functional combat model for $100-200...

(sigh)

5000.00 for a plastic? Heck you can get a full RC 1/144 Fiberglass fully lit and fully detailed Yamato for 4199.00 ready to go at RC Command. It's far more robust than the plastic and won't curl in the summer heat when you take it out.
