Torpedo Boats

These are the motors that I used to replace the motors in my Schnellboote. The previous motors were from All Electronics and were a motor that they listed as coming from the film rewind of a camera. They worked for almost 2 years, but were not very efficient for what I was asking them to do, and required me to use a two bladed prop that bugged the hell out of me because they were so unscale[:'(]
The new motors are stock HPI Micro RS4 motors. They are far more efficient with a lot more torque. They do weigh more, but because of the increase torque and increased efficiency, I was able to reduce the battery packs by one cell to 4 cells. I have also made three bladed props that are 1.5cm in diameter. This configuration now allows me to drive the 21" 1/72nd scale Schnellboot at our club rules speed of about 39k for two to three sorties before having to change out the battery. I am very happy.:D
These motors are on Ebay, item number #5909028922. I think that these will work well for any boat at speed up to 30".

RE: Torpedo Boats

hello all

I am very new to the wonderfull (and very expensive) hobby of RC boats.
what i am doing at the moment is converting the revell 1/72 schnellboote.
I have added the prop shafts and rudder posts (all three) and have bought a micro RC system
am now buying HPI RS4 micro motors. and here is where i hit the hard part
what MICRO ESC can i use to run the motors. I would like reverse capability.

thank you in advance for any help

I am using a Duratrak Blast in the Schnellboote. It easially handles the two HPI stock Micro motors. If weight becomes a concern, an LPR will also beable to do that.

I have more power for that S100 now and I upgraded the battery packs to 8 aaa Nhims..I get about 20 minutes of HARD running in 40 degree water if not colder... so I figure I should get more runtime if the weather was warmer..

The new boat I'm building will either run all 3 shafts or just two...either way I believe this boat will fly :-)

RE: Torpedo Boats

I am a little late on this subject . :)

8', Higgins 78' PTB, Gun Boat.--all 1/8" ext. ply. --
41 lb. trolling motor mounted inside the hull and controlled by a Novak Super Rooster Reversing ESC off off a 12 vdc trolling battery.
Motor and shafts are connected by a overdriven timing belt drive. Props are 4.5" X 5" P/ 5 blades.
SS 5.5' with 5 SS bearings each.
2 SS rudders

2 tone green jungle pant job. 15 USN crew, 6 Aussies, 4 wounded in deck blankets, and 2 dead on deck.
2--50 cals. at bridge.
2-- 37mm cannons amidships, 2-- 50 cals. on bow. 2--50 cals. on stern
2-- Steel tube torpedo tubes and torpedos, followed by newer 2 roll off torpedo racks and torpedos.

120 watt dual channel stereo driving 8 --large car speakers that have a custom speed and volume linkage to increase together and set for slight off synchronized that almost meet at top speed.
That alone stands the hair up on my body, on a head on attack run, at top speed.

The boat almost yanked me, 190#. off the dock when I slammed the throttle wide open.
I did 1/2 undress to remove the splinters.

A 21# trolling motor was border line. the 41# is perfect.
She is on plane in 30' to 50'.

" They were expendable " still gets my juices going.

I joined PTB's Inc. to get a original PTB sound track and support the groups efforts.

I have a 80' ASR boat framed up for the 21# trolling motor but my interests have changed to volunteering my time to free boats for kids in schools.

My Mother said I could come back from playing in the desert with mud on my shoes. :D

It's never too late for a project!!!

Tonight I tried out my new props..man can this boat move with less power now..

Classic Warships sells the problems for like $4.00 for the set of 3

this makes a difference in the water!

Hey, I am building a 1/20 scale ELCO 80' PT boat. I want to power it with 3 motors and have this idea of using 3 ESC's spliced together out of the receiver. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
Wade

ok good luck might not what setup are you running

RE: Torpedo Boats

OK, got the speed controllers in and setup and all seems to be running well. I am running 3 Proboat "Riptide" ESC's that are Y connected into one channel. Then each speed controller will have one or two 6 cell nicd battery packs.
