Default 120SP Any thoughts on this fuel?

Hello,

I am happy to say I am going to go for one of your 120 SP engines for a scale F6F project. I have a few other four stroke engines and have gotten quite fond of PowerMaster's YS20/20 blend which is a 20% nitro, 20% all synthetic oil formulation. I have read the different posts in this forum about other fuels, but have not seen any mention of this one. I see that your engineers recommend all synthetic oil if possible and 10%- 15% nitro, so I guess my only concern is if using this fuel would have a dramatic effect on the engine or void the warranty.

I have had excellent luck with this fuel on everything from OS 52's to YS 110's and would hope I can try and keep my fuel shopping easy and convenient as it's readily available at most shops in may area. After all what's a mere 5% nitro among friends?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

the 20% Nitro is too much. Several posts here some time ago recommend 15% as absolute maximum, if using more, you have to reduce the compression ratio, which is not possible on the RCVs.
There are also some posts which report rough running with 20% oil.
I would not try it.
What about adding some pure methanol into your fuel to lower the percentage? Its easier than mixing from scratch.

regards
Andi

Hello HellcatAce,

We have no no first hand knowledge of using Powermaster YS20/20 fuel as is it not one of our recommended fuels, due to the high oil/nitro content. As you are aware our recommendation is for 15% oil and 10% nitro. However, if you would prefer to run your engine on this fuel then by ll means try it but please be aware it may not run at optimum performance.

Best regards

Thanks for your reply Angela. Any worries about the compression ratio needing to be dropped as noted in the post before yours? Also, if I do use this fuel, would it void the warranty?

Thanks in adavance.

Hello Hellcat,

As per the posting by Andi you will be not be able to change the compression on your engine, without making modifications to it. As I have already stated we do not recommend this type of fuel, so we cannot say how the engine will perform for you, if you use it.
We have a pretty comprehensive warranty including a Lifetime guarantee scheme (from 010805) so as long as you have registered your engine for our 2 year international warranty and have not altered the engineering configuration in any way, crashed the engine or abused it, we will honour the warranty.
Now, I feel I have to make this clear to you. If you wish to go ahead and use a 20/20 fuel, with more than 15% nitro which could put stress on the engine, therefore resulting in damage. We are not at liberty to cover you for warranty, as this could be deemed as abuse.
I hope this will help you decide on the best course of action.

Many thanks
Angela Peskett

Thanks for the reply. At least the 15% fuels montioned in this forum are fairly easy to get. Thanks also for the clarification about the warranty since in the previous reply you only warned of "less than optimum" performance. Would hate for that to result in "less than optimum" warranty coverage as well
