Default More Vortex Ground Clearance?

Looking at how my Vortex suspension is set up, it looks like downward travel is limited by the length of the shocks, rather than the arms. If I could lower the shocks, I could increase the ride height. But it doesn't appear that I can position the shocks to lower the a-arms, so are there any longer shocks that will fit?

Maybe the 60003 big-bore shocks?

Nah... I'll wait for my LHS to get them - for 2 reasons.

1) I'm in Canada, so shipping is almost as much as the part, plus I'll likely get dinged with a handling fee and tax, which will more than double the cost of the shocks, compared to getting them from the LHS;

2) I'm not in that big a hurry... and I'm waiting for a spur gear to come in, since I chewed the last one smooth. [:@]

According to their checkout, $12. The shocks are $13/pr. So $38 US, which with the current exchange is going to cost me $45. Plus if it's nabbed by customs, they'll slap on a $5 inspection fee, plus 13% tax, bringing it up to $56.

Or, I can wait for my LHS to bring them in, and they price them pretty close to US retail... which would be $32 CDN for 2 pair.

I'm not in such a big rush to do it that I'll blow the extra $25 on them. There are other things I can put that towards right now (like new wheels and tires!).

Well i was just gonna say that i probably have a spur gear that i would throw your way, and i would just send it usps in a padded envelope. Ive sent things like that across the statess for pretty cheap.

That's awfully nice of you, but that's OK... mine should be in in a couple of days. And the two spares I ordered to go along with it.

Not that it's anything special, but [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showatt.php?attachmentid=2615916]here's a vid[/link] of my Vortex just before the spur stripped. Just after this I popped in a 3s A123, and there was this funny buzzing noise, and the car wouldn't move.... [X(]

Thanks for the video. The weather hasn't let me run my vortex since I got it last week. Do you think the spur stripped from the power or from some gravel getting into the gear mesh? I'm afraid of that and want to make some kind of shield on mine.

I can't really say.... I've been flogging the buggy pretty hard since I got it. I've run 3s lipos and A123s in it a bit, but I suspect that it's more from hard starting and braking than from a stone.

When you look at the spur, there's a pinion-width groove milled through the teeth all the way around it.

It was disappointing, since I had a bunch of batteries all charged and ready to go... It didn't last a minute with the 3s in there, and with a 3s pack, it really flies!

Yeah, a stone would probably not do damage as uniform as that. I hope you get more video once you get the extra gears. I love this little cheap bugger. I just wish it had more scale wheels/tires, and some clearance like you say.

i've got the nitro vortex.. i too wanted a bit more ground clearance. i found an older electric rc, "heng long" mad truck, that had the 12mm wheels on it. i tried the swap and it is great.. it's got the clearance of a volcano now and really hauls ass!! my pull start is off right now waiting for the e-start gun, but i'll throw up a pic or a vid when i get it put back. should be by wed this week.

Its either the mesh, or just the power. Cause i threw a 8.5t brushless with 6 and 7 cell batteries and somtimes i strip the spur. It could even be landing a jump on the throttle.

Ahh.... could very well be landing a jump on the throttle.... it's seen lots of air in its' short time with me

I may have been a little careless with the throttle while I was having so much fun... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Lol it happens, i actually stripped the spur of a volcano when i was doing speed runs over speed bumps, the long ones that you can go fast over in real cars. But i would get a tiny bit of air and that was enough to strip it.
