2s lipos?
hey guys. well im paranoid of lipos still, but i was wondering that since im going to be getting into micro rc planes which use 1s lipos, they are sooo small; why are 2s lipos so much bigger? i really want to get 2s lipos for my cars but the size of a 2s lipo just scares me.
|
RE: 2s lipos?
The size of them is cause of the extra capacity needed for the bigger motors. I personally also had the worries as you. I bought the safe charge bag and what not. Igot a good charger with good connectors. Ive been running lipos for about a year now and not a single problems.

RE: 2s lipos?
yeah idk. i still don't know if i wanna try lipo yet. yes i will have to use lipo for my micro planes, but im not very worried about the micro rc plane batteries as much as i am as the bigger lipos.
|
RE: 2s lipos?
do you guys think i should try 2s lipos? im still a little scared of them.
|
RE: 2s lipos?
Ya absolutely, try them. First time I charged one, I sat there and watched it, as I was unsure myself.
|
RE: 2s lipos?
okay maybe i will. but only 2s. also, can i charge them in my garage and watch them there?
|
RE: 2s lipos?
Sure charge them in the bathroom if ya want!!! They only suggest an area away from flammable materials as a general precaution for all batteries, not just lipo. I beleive they usually suggest charging at a 1C rate, so if you have a 5000mAh capacity battery, you would charge it at 5A max.
Once you do it, you'll never go back!!! |
RE: 2s lipos?
<< oops, sorry for the double post...network acting up>>>
Sure, charge them wherever you want. they just suggest not near flammable materials as a general precaution for charging any battery, not just lipo. I beleive they suggest charging at a 1C rate, so if you have a 5000mAh capacity battery, you would charge it at 5A max. Once you try lipos, you'll be converted!! |

What Redcat are you running the 2slipos in? |
RE: 2s lipos?
well im not only thinking of running them in redcats, but if i do run them in a redcat i will buy the earthquake 8e. plus, if i get the chance and am not paranoid anymore, i will move up to 6s and use the rampage xb-e.

RE: 2s lipos?
The truck's a blast! Wheelie's with proper traction!

RE: 2s lipos?
lipos are to nimh packs, what race fuel is to pump gas!
both can catch fire, but both are safe if used correctly. one just puts out way more power:) i have had nimh packs get 150-160 degrees at the end of a run! my lipos never got over 110 degrees. sure a lipo "CAN" catch fire, but you have to either overcharge it or puncture it. do the same to a nimh pack and it could catch fire as well. and with hardcased turnigy packs costing $25-$30, a lipo charger running under $50 and a lipo bag just $5, its pretty cheap to get more power! a turnigy 2s 30c 5000mah lipo will get 25-35-minutes of runtime in most 1/10 brushless trucks! thats awsome for just a $30 battery. |
RE: 2s lipos?
yeah im going to be getting 2s lipos. the earthquake 8E comes with 2s right? because im thinking of getting that truck when i go lipo.

ORIGINAL: electricrc68 yeah im going to be getting 2s lipos. the earthquake 8E comes with 2s right? because im thinking of getting that truck when i go lipo. but you can get a lipo charger from ebay for $45 shipped that will do anything from nimh, lipo, life, PB and it has a balance charger. they do anything most hobbiests will ever need. and the lipos that come with the earthquake can be used with other trucks you already have, just as long as the ESC's have LVC or you buy a $4 LVA. |
RE: 2s lipos?
I agree with JTuepker1. Lipos really are the best battery types out there, but they can be dangerous without proper care. The 2s size can be scary, but the larger size offers a higher capacity for those rc planes that have bigger motors. It's also really important to make sure you have a good charging and storage bag, and make sure you buy a good charger with good connectors.
If you're really nervous about charging those 2s you buy, just make sure you buy good quality lipos and just make sure to protect yourself by getting a good quality charging and storage bag. Although they don't have much of a selection, I've replaced a lot of my lipos with a brand called Zeus. Ifound a few really good quality 1000mAh and 350mAhlipos at http://www.powercellbattery.comand they've provided a lot of great power. They also have a really cheap lipo charging and storage bag. Areally good quality bag, but just at a really inexpensive price. |

RE: 2s lipos?
if a lipo gets swollen, it literally is puffed up. this only happens if its not upto the task given(like using a 1000mah 2s lipo in a brushless truck....not enough amperage for the vehicle) or if its over-discharged(cells run below 2.9volts)
i dont have any lipos in my store, sadly. hobbyking.com has the turnigy lipos. and ebay has winforce 2s 30c 5000mah lipos. the turnigy ones are nicer, hardcased lipos tho. you should get those. they have 2s 30c 5000mah and 2s 30c 5500mah hardcased packs. i have the earthquake 8e in my store, but if i sell direct to you i can include something for free, like a wheely bar. |
RE: 2s lipos?
okay thanks for the info. that would be nice to have a free wheely bar. i have just one more question. i have seen lipos with banana plugs i think they are called? are those just deans or would they not work for a deans connector on an esc?

RE: 2s lipos?
for me, i learn best buy watching others. im a visual learner.
however, havent been any RC guru's around here to teach me. so, over the years i had to learn on my own. i was in the hobby for over a year before i found RCU. dont ask me how many things i have done wrong over the years! and now, many RC guys have made helpful RC "how to" vids and posted them on utube. everything from gear mesh, to connetors, soldering, wiring, what different specs mean and more. there is a world of info if you just know what to look for(thats half the battle!) because of RC's, I get to pick up a screw driver/wrench almost every day! helps keep me sane to use my hands to work on something:eek: |
