tornado s30
Well I took my s30 out today, and I should have went back inside. My glow igniter was dead and I lost a front dog bone some how. It was running rather, ill just say it, ****ty. I need a new cluttch I guess? And someone to come tune it for me. Ha. It fianlly shifted to 2nd but only with the wheels off the ground and it was super slow even at full throtle. I put my foot in front of it and pinned it and nothing happened. It just sounded like a weed eater that was jammed, it used to light up all the tires if I did that.(on dirt and I only did it once for a second)
So I need a clutch I assume? And I need a front dog bone but idk the length I need. Theres like 3 different sizes. Can I just change the clutch out or do I need other crap to add to my cart to change out too? |
If your dogbone is missing that would cause the acceleration problems and possibly the shifting problems. It's also possible that the 2 speed needs adjusted and or the engine tuned. You could watch the videos on www.redcatracing.com for more info. Here is the part # for the dogbone 06061 and the clutch 02048(m). And yes you can just change out the clutch.
Ok. It seems to have lost alot of its power. The clutch bell I noticed is all burnt the metal is blue now. The dog bone came out towards the end of my run. When I was running it up the street it wouldnt shift but if picked it up and hit the gas it would shift.
If the clutch bell has turned color the clutch is probably damaged and or the spring broken.
If the spring was broke then it wouldnt start on the ground right?
I wanted to go to a single speed tranny but I think I would be losing alot of speed and it may not be worth it. Idk |
Is the brake disc discolored or the brake mount melted? The brakes dragging would make the clutch hot and turn colors.
No all thats fine. I was in unmowed grass when I was runnibg it and noticed the bell.
Oh yes, tall grass will cause a lot of extra drag and will also cause excessive clutch heat/wear.
I figured. I guess some grass got in the bell and was making it slip.
So when I change the clutch I can just take the old one out and out the new one in? I dont have to chamge other things? I wasthimg about going to single speed trans too cuz I dont race. |
I would replaced the shoes, springs and bearings just so you don't have to do the bearings later. I would also inspect the teeth on the clutch bell for wear. If they look bad and you replace them I would also replace the spur gears at the same time so they wear in together. I'm not sure how the single speed tranny would work speed wise.
Im not worried about losing MPHs. I just replaced the tranny(i took it apart and couldnnt get it back together)
