Sandstorm cvd and brushless conversion

Hey guys new here and hobby rc. I've been using my car for about a month with co workers. Its alright till I broke the front of the chassis as well as bent the rear dog bone from being smashed by a slash vxl. Looking for cvds so dog bones won't pop out or get bent as easy next time as well as a good brushless setup so I can keep up better with everyone. Chassis is getting ordered next but would like to bundle parts to save on shipping. Thanks for the help

What brushed motor is in the Sandstorm now? I safe bet would be to go with a HobbyWing Qicrun or EZRun ESC motor combo. And then you have SkyRC Cheetah/Toro ESCs, Castle Creations SCT Sidewinder ESC motor combos, Speed Passion, and many others. Just try to look at the reviews before making a purchase. Generally the "name brand" stuff is reliable. I don't know what price range you are looking at. Running a 2S or 7cell battery pack and a moderate powered motor...60A ESC would suffice.

It has a 27t brushed motor 540 in it now. What kv should I look for? I don't care to go crazy fast as long as it's still stable. Big learning curve coming from toy grade 10+ years ago

I don't know about the durability of the Sandstorm's driveline, or how others have handled adding power to them. I'd go with a kv rating of 3000 ~ 3800, or a 13.5T ~ 10.5T motor. Be ready to gear down as well when adding "more" motor to your RC. Something along the lines of ...http://www.ebay.com/itm/SkyRC-Cheeta...0AAOSwOdpX1ujD, or something like...http://www.rcmart.com/quicrun-brushl...Path=1560_1301 I don't think you really want to know what super low budget stuff I've used, and still using.

I've read some of the threads you've posted in you know what your doing. If it works it works. I work on Subaru's and have seen some hacked stuff that people carry there kids in.

If running 2S , I might stretch it out to 4000kv or even a little more .
But keep an eye on temps , you may need to gear it down .
.6 Mod gears according to the Redcat site

You may be right seedygreen, but I guess I should said I like to be more on the conservative side of things. I keep forgetting my moderate speed needs may not be what others are looking for. To me, 30 mph is the maximum speed I like to achieve on a very rough off-road track (with 1/8 eBuggy). I am, almost always, using (high gear ratios) very low tooth count pinion gears on all my RCs. Looking at Redcat's site, I see a 3300kv brushless motor as an option, so I could possibly assume the RC would handle that motor. Jumping from a very "stock" brushed motor to an all out powerhouse brushless motor would concern me. If OP has ability to tame the motor down with transmitter endpoint adjustments...great! Doing so, and how much throttle limiting is done, will add some heat to the ESC. No throttle EPAs...then pinion/spur gears it is to adjust top end.

One of RC's best friends (or something like it)... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Temperature-...p2056016.l4276

I'm not sure how much this tx can cut down but according to the parts list it's got a 23t pinion and a 64t spur. I'm guessing I would have to go with there brushless pinion of 13t to keep temps down as of now the brushed has seen 175 degrees on pavement with the 3800mah nimh and has not seen full pack of 2s 5200mah lipo. Do either of you know another brand of cvds that will fit this rig it has 87mm dog bones right now

I get a little excited when someone says " more speed " .
That Hobbywing combo actually looks pretty good . A program card is all I would add .
