Reminder that Waterproof electronics does not mean rust proof everything else.
1 Attachment(s)
As I was taking my blackout XBE apart, I noticed little rust spots on the screws and several metal pieces. Just wanted to remind everyone that while these have waterproof electronics, they need to be dried/cleaned/oiled/maintained after driving in wet conditions. I let mine sit for 2 weeks before cleaning and didn't dry it out... Here's what I found on the motor pinion gear. No real damage and just took a little brushing and oil to clean up, but now I know to blow the motor out with compressed air after getting it wet.

Whenever the truck (XTE PRO) get wet (love running it on snow), I put it (on the side or upside down - body cover off) near to the space heater and it dry within minutes. No rust inside anywhere except on some stock screws.

Water, and salt, gets into places you can't imagine. Compressed air helps. I'm assuming you mean in the can. A good air compressor is even better. Don't get a cheap one. The kids burned my first one up cleaning their RC cars. Didn't let it stop running for close to an hour.
Here's a little trick for you. Do you have any floor vents that blow hot air into the room from the furnace? After blowing them off, park them over a vent. Completely dry in no time, and added some humidity to the house. Lol. |
Another great idea. I do have floor vents and one right by the back door that the wife wont complain about if I use it to dry out the cars. Might be a good place for a storage rack that will dry multiple at a time.
