Fixing up an old exceed hyper

Ive seen this is the more active side of the HSP brands so I figured I'd get more replies here.

My name is Brandon, when I was 17 my grandfather heard I wanted a nitro car. Bieng the greatest grandfather but not the most internet literate he bough me an exceed hyper buggy. I knew it was the China knockoff model but he was thrilled to give it to me so I loved it all the same.

I ran it mercilessly around my neighborhood and as much as I expected it to do poorly it was honestly fantastic. I never really maintained it or cleaned it off (stupid kid) and then I stopped using it altogether when the gasket on the exhaust blew out and I never got around to fixing it.

Shortly after that I enlisted and left off for 5 years. The buggy sat in the garage covered in grime and was likely not stored any kind of proper.

Now to today:

So going through my parents shed I found it. I thought it was gone or tossed to be honest. I've spent about 5-6 hours in unsiezing the motor with wd-40 and cleaning components. Evreything looks decent after opening it up. I've got it where it turns over when pulled smoothly and the piston and chamber looked good. I'll be ordering some replacement parts as well since all together the stuff was under 40$.

i know this is likely a waste of time since these are cheap, and I'll be getting a new one to run soon as well but I'd really like to get this one going- if nothing else than for sentimental value.

Am i stupid? Any issues I should look out for? Is it likely I can get the motor running again?

Progress!
I got it to turn over and actually idle, it did start to run away revving up at first but I think I have the idle pretty sorted out. Now to get a working TX and RX in it!

Self update,
It now runs, has new electronics, and I'll be testing it out later today! I suppose I'm writing this to myself but feels good haha

I wouldn't say your writing to yourself I look in here 2-3 times a week. I just didn't have anything to offer with your particular project but it's awesome you got it going. Post up some pics if you have time. I enjoy just reading about what people are doing and seeing the progress.

I don't mind its almost like a diary- but will do on pictures, got it doing circles and hopefully it stays good tempered and starts up tommorow for a run. VERY rough peice of work but feels good to get it up. I have a traxxis for when I want things to work 90% of the time anyways lol.

most likely going to make this a Frankenstein and see about putting something irresponsibly high powered in it.

Dope! I have a shockwave its the same scheme buggy i think. Its good to know it can sit and still run. I have a lil more than a half gallon thru mine and its doing great. I run mine real lean and at the end of each tank its nearing 300F. Nitro rc nerds on youtube helped me out alot. Hows it doing now?
