RE: Electric start for Redcats
If anyone is looking into an electric starter, go with the starter box. I know people who have put the other kind on and have had nothing but trouble with them.
Redcat Racing is getting starter boxes in within the next month. I suggest anyone wait until then. We will have them readily in stock. Besides it being easier, it will be the solution to not buying $25 pull starts every month. |
RE: Electric start for Redcats
looks like a battle of the redcat dealers ready set fight
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
LOL. I have nothing against Top Speed Toys.
If I'm correct he orders direct from China, so he can offer a wider range of products than us Redcat Dealers. I just wanted to let everyone know about my past experiences with wand starters. Thats basically what this forum is for, right? |
RE: Electric start for Redcats
i know man i was just joking around its good to see that everyone here can get along and let everyone know what is coming and where to get it
no hard feelings just laughs |
RE: Electric start for Redcats
You're right Stormy,
Not only do I buy from China but I also buy from Redcat as I am a Redcat dealer like yourself. Wich means we will offer all the same products available from Redcat & more. Regards, Mark www.topspeedtoys.com |
RE: Electric start for Redcats
hey top speed just wondering do you need battery pack for electric start or can you just use regular batteries your universal shafts what lenght are they 80mm or 83 mm basically tornado or volcano
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
Hi bluecaka69,
Yes you will need a battery pack for the starter wich also means you'll need a charger. If you've been in the Hobby for a while you probably have a charger already. We will look into a good charger soon. I'll get back to you on the Universal shaft measurement l8tr. Mark TopSpeedToys BTY... love the user name Blue(favorite color) Caka(must have drank allot of coolaid to be blue) 69(everybody's favorite number) |
RE: Electric start for Redcats
Hey bluecaka69,
I don't have the measurement yet on the universal shaft but looking at Redcats website and the parts books, the universal shaft item# 02106, is for the Lightning VX. I will also assume it's shorter than both for Tornado and Volcano. Mark TopSpeedToys |

RE: Electric start for Redcats
Not sure if this has been asked/answered before but about how much will the starter boxes run? I personally like either pullstarts or starterboxes as I'm not a big fan of the wand thing (not sure why...). Will backplates for the engines be an option or are some out there already that will fit the vx.18?
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
yeah there are backplates that will fit.... the HPI roto start part#87121 will fit the vertex .18 engines, i have already check that out by taking my sylcone to the hobby store and matched it up
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
i have the HPI roto start part#87121 on my tornado xp, my lhs hasnt gotten another one in so i can put it on the volcano, i have an hpi with the rotostart already so thats why i got it, and its pretty much the only thing on the buggy that doesnt break. Just my 2 cents.
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
Don't quote me on this but I have an idea that they'll be about $45-65. When you consider batteries and charges for the wand starter pricing is about the same.
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
What about electric starters for the Hurricane XP? Which ones work and do the I need to buy a special backplate? .27 engine. Thanks
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
I have the TigerDrive my my volcano and I love it just attach the drill and Zoom Zoom!!
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
The TigerDrive that I have fits 99.99% of all engines, there are two different models! One fits only certain motors that have there pull starter or something in a certain position but the other one which I have fits motors that have all different angle starters. I'm not sure if the thing I'm talking about is the pull starter or not, the hobby shop owner confused me so I went with the one that fits motors all different angles cuz they were the same price. I figured I'd go with the one that fit all ways instead of just one way. I'll try to find a pic of it but they both look just alike.

RE: Electric start for Redcats
Will a CEN Racing Roto-Tech Starter fit the Hurricane XP's .27 engine or do I need another backplate?
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
Anyone know the actual name of the engines in the Lightning VX .16 engine so I can get an after market electric start. I saw something at www.redcatracing.com called a start gun but the picture has a bad link. So if anyone could please let me know of the name or something that will for sure work that doesn't have an outrageous cost please let me know!
Thanks, -Martin |

RE: Electric start for Redcats
Wow that's pretty cool man. Good stuff.
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
Its past 3 AM right now, so i'll spend that 45 bucks in the morning :-) After I get it I'll be sure to write a review in my profile section. Cause if this works well then I'll be pretty freakin happy. Thanks for the speedy responses!
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
That's a really good deal TST...especially when you consider my sons traxxas came with the ez start, and we still spend another $75 for just the charger and battery...But I have a question...You list it for the Taiwan engine...what about the .18 Inifiniti???
|
RE: Electric start for Redcats
The backplate should work for either engine. I'm almost 101% sure about that.
The only major difference btwn those two engines is the carb on either one. Other than that they're practically the same. |
