Optional ways to start the volcano

I got my volcano last year around Christmas time. I have broken a few parts here and there, replaced them no big deal. Now i have an itch to drive it.....BUT MY PULL START BROKE!!! So im wondering, is there anyway to start it without the electronic device or the pull start? A couple car fanatics on my street have told me to try and start it with a power screwdriver or something like that. But i can find where to put one. All posts would be deeply appriciated. Thanks

you can take off the pull start and leave on only the one way bearing
then get a hex nut key that applies to an electric drill and drill it clockwise from behind the engine

maybe that is sci fi though

what I did when my pull start spring broke and i couldnt fix the spring, was to remove the whole thing except the one way bearing. put the wheel back on (without the cover) and start turning it with your hand until the string rolls back to place. then pull as you would normally. it works perfectly but you always need to roll it back in manually. offcource when the engine starts remove the wheel and the one way bearing.
note: dont start the engine backwards.... the wheel should turn clockwise as you try to start it

hope you make it

Get a roto start or a start box.

if he doesnt, i know topspeedtoys does.

And Drummer: Just get a new starting Device. Topspeedtoys has roto starts, which are actually really nice. You can also get tiger drives(i had one, but it broke soon after i got it) so i dont recommend that.

Or you can get a starter box- My opinion--Dont, there a huge lug to carry around if your just driving for fun and need to carry it around places.

Your best option is a roto start. But youll need a battery for it. But in the long run its a good deal.

yeah Greg . Dont go with the roto start. Starter boxes are the way togo. I'll give ya call.

You may want to look into a TigerDrive as another way to get your engine started.

The part number that'll fit these engines is S680

I'd go with a starter box myself:)

the guy was looking for a quick way to start the truck until the parts come in

i have a tiger drive on my truck and I had absolutely no problems

I think I prefair the pullstart though. you dont have to think about batteries and stuff. sometimes its just the simpler the better you know what I mean?

RE: Optional ways to start the volcano

I agree, I prefer the pullstart. No worries about charging batteries and forgetting things places. I have a hard enough time remembering to charge my glowplug ignitor. As it is now I need about 3 quick pulls and my engine will start right up cold. And I mean sure pull starts break everynow and then, but it's much easier to just go get a new one than having to worry about stripping gears in your starter or buying new batteries.

My tiger drive stripped on the 3rd start. So thats why im so against them

the bushings that come in tiger drives are crap. if you replace them with ball bearings right away, you'll be golden though:D

I also heard that you should bend the little bracket that holds the gears together so that they line up better. Apparently they're spaced too far apart, that's why they strip.

popper...that's actually a problem that would be solved by the bearings, according to my buddy that uses the TigerDrive

and yes, i know that was a quick reply...it's 4 AM sunday morning, i have nothing better to do:)

RE: Optional ways to start the volcano

Get a Roto Start........point blank. Unless you have a drill that can turn the one way bearing fast enough to get the engine started.
