What about wheelies?
I see a lot of photos and videos with trucks and cars, etc, popping wheelies like crazy. I don't know much about these things, but why can't my buggy do that?

RE: What about wheelies?
You'd be pretty hard pressed to find any buggy that would do a wheelie from a stand still. Their center of gravity is too low to the ground and I don't think the engines in the redcats are anywhere near strong enough to do it.
Most of those wheelies you see are on monster trucks that sit high off the ground and have a relatively short wheel base. They also pack some serious punch. |
RE: What about wheelies?
I hit a small bump with my Hurricane XP (btw, came w/ .28SH) and did a wheelie for about 20-30 feet.

RE: What about wheelies?
never could get any redcat to do wheelies not enough low end now my jato 3.3 on the other hand has to much power cant keep front tires on the ground maybe if you make buggy 2 wheel drive and get it tuned perfect it might be able to pull a wheelie

RE: What about wheelies?
Jato is sick huh, i luv my jato.

RE: What about wheelies?
man ive never seen anything so fast in my life i gonna eventually get radar gun like you did and clock it cause i bet this thing will do 60 or better

RE: What about wheelies?
That's why I bought myself the buggy...I have a hard time keeping my son's Maxx from flipping over off the start...good enough at driving to keep it upright once I get going, but taking off is a different story...well, unless I try to power slide it, then I'm about 75% good...LOL

RE: What about wheelies?
Thanks guys. I had no idea. It just looks cool to bring the wheels up when taking off. [8D]

RE: What about wheelies?
its possible for buggies to wheelie, but they have to do it in a slightly different way than monster trucks.... for all intents and purposes relating to wheelies, a buggy doesnt have any height but a monster truck does, and what matters is the location of your center of gravity in relation to the rear wheels.... for monster trucks, the center of gravity is considerably higher than the level of the wheels, and so when you accelerate forwards, you do not push directly at the center of gravity , instead you tend to 'pry' the whole truck upwards....
for buggies, the center of gravity is in line with the level of the wheels (or they should anwyay, otherwise thats one unstable buggy) , and so it should accelerate quicker than monster trucks and still not wheelie.... to wheelie, it takes the pivoting action of the rear wheels to lift the whole buggy off the ground, as if you have held the rear wheels still and the torque is lifting the weight of the entire buggy up... it takes alot of traction and torque to wheelie with a buggy, i'd say its an uncommon sight to see one do it... |
RE: What about wheelies?
The Volcano will only wheelie after landing a jump and hitting the gas on the bounce. My son rode one for about 20'. The Savage on the other hand will wheelie so much if you punch it off the start that it starts to drive you nuts. Flips right over. Rear wheel drive on the Redcat buggy just makes the thing uncontrollable. It just doesn't get hooked up well enough, traction wise ,and is underpowered to do it.

wheelies are only cool for about the first two days man now they driuve me crazy also i put some wieght on the frront of jato to keep her on the ground
