RE: sv Q
dawn soap and hot water to clean air filter
|
RE: sv Q
will any soap work?
|
RE: sv Q
Yeah any dishwashing soap should work.
It gets all the grease/oil/fuel out. |
RE: sv Q
BigMatt, check these videos out for tuning. They're done on an HPI Savage, but all engines/carbs tune in the same manner.
Video 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSmMzpZM_As Video 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJFsJ...elated&search= You do know where your idle screw, LSN and HSN are, right? I know the manual sucks, so if not, the idle screw is the middle one hidden by the air filter. The HSN is the outside one that sticks up, highly visible. The LSN is at the side of the carb where the throttle arm connects. If you find that you've ever messed it up to the point it won't start anymore, here are the base settings - LSN should be flush with the collar and the HSN should be backed out 2 1/2 to 3 turns from closed (all the way in, not too tight!) The idle screw should be set so the throttle opening should be about 1mm or 1/16 of an inch. You can see the opening with the air filter off. When you turn it in (clockwise) the idle increases as well as the opening. Obviously the reverse does the opposite. Once your idle is properly set, there should be no need to ever touch that one again. When making idle adjustments with the engine running, ALWAYS have the air filter installed. Take a look at this. It's from the redcat racing website support link - http://66.226.4.160/tuningyourengine.asp Good luck! I got my Volcano SV "erupting" off the line... Really though, she's dialed right in. Remember, your LSN is imperative for quick, hesitation free take offs. Once you get that dialed in, move on to the HSN |

Here's a pic of all the different needles just in case:

RE: sv Q
ok, i knew where all those neddles were, buthow would i tune it up here? i havnt seen the vids yet, so i hope that they answer my Q.
|
RE: sv Q
ok, i saw them. they told me nothing that i didnt know. ok, there is less air up here than where most of anyone lives. lets say that your motor is not getting enough air. what do you do? another prob. whenever i hit the brake the motor stalls. what do i do about that?
|
RE: sv Q
If your motor stalls when brakes are applied, you need to turn the idle up. Screw it in about 1/4 turn. That setting isn't as fine as the other needles, which have to be adjusted in 1/8 turns. The reason it stalls is because when you push forward on the trigger the carb closes more than if you just let off the throttle. That opening is not large enough at that time to keep enough air/fuel flowing into the engine.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, due to your altitude/thin air, your truck runs leaner than those around sea level. Start with the factory settings and gradually richen by 1/8 turns out. Start with the LSN. Once you can erupt without hesitation/chugging from an 8 second idle, move on to the HSN. Remember, just keep adjusting until it just starts to lose performance, then turn 1/8 in the opposite direction. You will get it, just have patience. I got my truck totally exploding off an 8 second idle. That's the key. Make sure you idle for 8 seconds then just squeeze the trigger, WOT... |
RE: sv Q
BigMatt, I was wrong about the thin air making it leaner. I just found some great info for you, and anyone else having tuning troubles, due to a variety of conditions like temp, humidity, barometric pressure, altitude, nitro content, oil content and glow plug.
Here is the link to the site [link=http://www.*********.org/cars_eng-tuning.htm]Nitro Engine Tuning[/link] The following info can be found near the end of the article. TUNING This chart indicates the direction in which you should adjust the fuel mixture when faced with changing weather and other conditions. It assumes the engine is currently well tuned. You could face any combination of conditions listed in the chart; knowing which way to go with the mixture adjustments is half the battle. Higher air temperature Lean Lower air temperature Rich Higher humidity Lean Lower humidity Rich Higher barometric pressure Rich Lower barometric pressure Lean Higher altitude Lean Lower altitude Rich Higher nitro content Rich Lower nitro content Lean Higher oil content Lean Lower oil content Rich Hotter glow plug Rich Colder glow plug Lean |
RE: sv Q
