Gear Alignment
Hey gang, I had to replace the clutch spring in my Volcano and I want to make sure that I get the gear mesh right the first time. I have heard about the paper trick, but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. Can somebody clarify this for me? Sorry if this has been discussed before but I didn't feel like searching the whole forum:eek:. Thanks:D

RE: Gear Alignment
rip a piece of looseleaf or printer paper and put it thru the clutch bell and spur gear then tighten it up, you should be able to pull the looseleaf thru easily without ripping it.

RE: Gear Alignment
ever time i do the paper trick the gears are to close together and it will hardly row so i do it by eye and i havent had a stripped gear yet after 6 tanks but man the 18t clutchbell helps it alot it is pretty fast just for a 1 speed

RE: Gear Alignment
You have to make sure you engine is square also. After you mesh your gears that is. Zach that is probably what is going on when you do the paper mesh, your not completely square.

RE: Gear Alignment
yea i make sure the engine is square

RE: Gear Alignment
I was just wondering because I noticed when I did the paper mesh it did roll very well either. Then I made sure the engine was square and it was perfect. I had to do very tiny adjustmensts to get it right took way to long. I just eye ball it also and feel for the right movement.

RE: Gear Alignment
i just push the gears together and then slowly spin the clutch bell with one finger to feel if theres any resistance, then hold still the other gear the bell is connected to and feel how much movement there is between the teeth, and this has worked perfect for me using the 2-speed on my tyranno. Of course you'll probably need to feel it first when its fitted properly to get an idea of what it shud feel like.
The teeth are all still close to perfect after about 1.5L of fuel. |
RE: Gear Alignment
I do the same, I have gotten six gallons of fuel off of two clutch bells. You need to be careful at launch and when you land make sure your off the gas. :D

RE: Gear Alignment
I agree Harry, see it all the time. ALot of people keep the gas on when they hit the ground...
