ran car with the Hpi aa5 and 13 and 18 th clucth bell

Ok I just installed the HPI setup for the Tornado xp.. The hpi A885 and the 13 and 18 tooth clutch bell.. AWSESOME is all I can say. I love the low end power and when it shifts it has decent high end also. I only have 1 ? on the install of the clutch bell. When I put everything together I notice the only thing that tightens down is the bearing, I used for the clutch bell. I used the stock washers that came with the tornado clutch bell. SO what I am trying to say is after I put everything in and tighten it down I can slide the clutch bell right off. The only thing that holds the clutch bell on is when I mesh the gears. It runs great like this I just want to know if this is the correct way to install the Hpi clutch bell. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks FONG

Sorry I screwed up the thread headlines ITS THE HPI A885 clucth and the 13 and 18 clutch bell from HPI

Sounds like you left off the big washer on the end of the drive shaft [:@]

Ok I Tried that. If i use the big washer it won't spin freely. Should I still use it even thought it doesn't spin freely? The clutch bell that is.
Or should I just put the big washer on and not tighten down all the way?

did you get the needle bearing? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM766&P=7 you use this instead of the bearings that come with the stock bell

Yeah I got the needle bearing. But when you put it in there is nothing to lock into in the clutch bell to hold into place. It just slide right through the clutch bell. I am trying to take some pics right know to let u know what I am talking about. I should have all the pics up in about 20 minutes.

When you put the allen screw in to tighten everything down there is nothing to go on top of the clutch bell to hold it into place. The needle bearing came with 3 washers but they are to big to fit inside the clutch bell.

the first pic is the bearing needle and the second is the first way I set the car up inside the buggy with the gear mesh just holding the clutch bell on and the second is with 1 of the washers holding the clutch bell on. U can see the washers are to big to go inside the bell. What i am trying to explain is there is nothing inside the clutch bell to even hold the needle bearing in. So the second picture is the only way I can hold the needle bearing into place inside the clutch bell. When I do that the clutch bell will just slide right over top of everything.

Ok lol When I go washer needle bearing, clutch bell, washer screw it is the same thing I come up with in picture 3. When I try and tighten everything the clutch bell will not spin freely. The big washer will just sit on top on the clutch bell. But when I don't use the big washer the clutch bell will just slide off.[:@]lol So confused I need a BEER.

sounds like it needs a spacer for some reason, it came with 3 washers right?

or the washers are too thick, what if you leave out the bottom washer and just use a needle bearing, clutch bell, washer and screw?

RE: ran car with the Hpi aa5 and 13 and 18 th clucth bell

It almost seems like you need 2 needle bearings. I think that would work perfect. That would give you room on top of the clutch bell to tighten it up, and so the bell would spin freely. So yah I think your right you need a spacer or something. With one needle bearing it sits very low inside the clutch bell, Thats why I think u might need 2 of them to get it to work right.

I aslo treid to leave the bottom washer out, put the post is still to short to reach the top of the clutch bell. I am going to try and put some kind of spacers in there and see if that will work.

maybe some washers on top of the needle bearing, enogh so the top washer hit it and not the clutch bell.

bro, you need these, so it would be washer, bushing, needle bearing, clutch bell, bushing, washer screw

Ok here is what i did, cut an old bear apart and used the inside ring for my spacer and it worked. But I think 2 needle bearings would work even better. Maybe I don't know but I got it. Thanks Eddie for all the help, YOUR THE MAN.

Did you use the HPI flywheel set up also? If not try using some of the spacers that was on the original bell crank and that might take care of it :D there were 3 with an outside washer and lock washer
