I just bought two Tornado BB's. I lost a shaft off the left front wheel. Is this what they refer to as a "dogbone" on the redcat site? I'm new at this. Also, while I was breaking in my other one, my dog decided to join in on the fun and altered the direction of travel and i hit the fence. i wasn't even on the throttle much, just enough to make it go. Now my bach wheels dont have power. Just the front. Any idea what part I need to replace? Otherwise these buggies are great.

Sounds as if yo lost the rear dog bone or the rear driveshaft as i call it.

if you look at the drive cups that the dogbones go into, there is a set screw (grub screw) in them, make sure that these grub screws are tight.

Anyway, check clermontmotorsports.com or allaboutfunhobbies.com for part number 08059, they will have better prices, faster S/H and better customer service.

Check to be sure your rear drive shaft's U-Joints are firmly connected to the shaft coming out of the center transmission and the rear differential. I had a similar issue with my front ... one of the small M4x4 set screws fall out while driving and had to go buy a new one (set of 4 was $1.25). If that's the case, take them all out and use some good blue Loc-Tite on them all and re-tighten them down so they don't pop out.

Thanks for all the help. You guys are the best. I'll dig in a little and see what's up. When I spin the back wheels, the center shaft still spins as well as the brake disc. The disconnect seems to be after that. I've seen some good info on basic mods here (clutch and all) is it worth doing CV joints as well? They don't seem to be that expensive. May as well get it all done at once. So far the orange/black one seems really fast. I haven't had a chance to run the purple/green yet. It had a defective fuel tank (complete blockage in the down tube) out of the box and then the issue with the rear wheels. Hopefully it's just a set screw and I'll get to run it as well. Any other suggestions for basic mods?

you mean 4146x, lol , BRO UPGRADE YOUR CLUTCH BELL, this is the single most important upgrade besides the spring, it will save you on spur gears.

Hey, Thanks for the help guys. The problem was the grub screw by the brake. I got it cranked and it runs at a very high idle. If I hit the brakes, it dies. Guess I have some tuning to do. LOL.

just have to turn the idle screw clockwise to stop it from closing when you hit the brake, its the one with the spring on it under the air filter this will stop it from shutting off. you may have to turn the throttle trim down on the radio to lower the idle once you get the idle screw adjusted

Thanks for the advice on tuning. i found that the linkage was way out of adjustment and I think the servo is really weak. I basically did a side by side with my other Tornado. I'll be replacing the servo as well. Allaboutfunhobbies (i think) referred me to you for CV joints. He gave me a stock number (06047). How does that equate to clermont's part number?

I lost a dogbone on my other car and I hear these are a good replacement. What's your thoughts?

I am not too sure about the cv joints, email dennis from clermontmotorsports.com and see what he says. They are a definate improvement over the stock dogbone setup.

Thanks! My stock one seems to just turn the wheels so slowly, replaced batteries already once before.

Just wanted to update, I ordered the clutch set-up as suggested with the springs. I should get the by the weekend. I'm ready to run the white car. Since it was DOA with a cloged/blocked tank, I haven't gotten to run it. They actually made me buy the tank and all. No biggie, only a few bucks, just the point I guess. Also, the clutch spring is bad in it as well. [>:] However, the orange one kicks butt with no issues, just a lost dogbone. Did a few cartwheels and barrell rolls, so I guess I cant complain.

I found the CV axels that Wade from allaboutfunhobbies told me about. They didnt have them at Tower. I got them from Himoto Racing on E-bay. 17 bucks for the set. I'll let you guys know how it all comes together and how well they hold up.

Hey guys, I jsut received all my stuff. In the process of doing it all. I know this is a silly question, how do I get the front wheels off. I just received my cv joints and can't get the wheel off. :eek: I think I have a handle on the clutch bell and spring job.. Just can't get this *&^-$ wheel of. LOL

take the center nut off and wiggle it back and fourth a little it will come off, its just tight on the hex nut behind it. btw what year 280 do you have, i wanted to get one but got a porsche instead, lol.

Thanks, Currently Z-less. :-( I've had a '76, 2 '77's and 2 '78's. Love the old ones. I actually had a 1970 240 with a door tag of 9/69. Wish I'd have kept that one. Just get the 5 speed. And A/C of course. What porsche do you have?

86 944, just had a fuel rail and injectors put in it, with timing belt and water pump, its only got 90,000 original miles. i had a 80 2+2 and my younger brother had a 81 with a 5 speed, we did a ton of work and had it painted white and it was beautiful entil the building juped in front of him and made it look like a horse shoe. i used to love the talking one with the digi dash that would say ok.
