A lot of folks would like a Replacement for the (rather odd) elongated clutch bell.....

The SHORT story is that there is NO aftermarket replacement for the Redcat Clutch bells.(Redcat Does make a 12 tooth bell, which makes it easier to drive on the larger tracks.)

The LONG story is that you CAN mod your Monsoon to run another MFG Clutch Bell (the standard Short kind), and use a Bump Box too, but it is a LOT of work and you had better be prepared to search for parts on the internet and you need to be Handy with a Dremel....

The only reason you would do such a thing is if you are Racing and IMHO, it is not worth the time, effort or cost.

Race it the way it is and make some reasonable mods, (quality bearings, Tires, shocks, brakes, servos, radio, and Tiger Drive). When the engine goes, drop in the 6 port piston/sleeve mod. If you drive well, you can be competitive at the Club level.

Wow. I have not been around in a while and here we are 23 pages later. I just wanted to update my experience with the monsoon. You got to keep all the metal parts coated with wd 40 as the surface rust can form on this truggy. The finish should be more corrosion resistant as my other rc stuff is fine. Also I had the needle for the idle speed have its tip break off during running locking the carb wide open throttle. I did quite a few burnouts before the truggy flipped on its lid and died out. Not the best feeling. I would recommend using a radio with end point adjustments to limit the travel of the servo to prevent excessive load on the idle speed needle during wide open throttle with the carb slide. Other than that and checking tightness of all screws and nuts and bolts...it with the 12 tooth is a nice rocket!

I am brand new to the hobby and have ordered a Monsoon XP !
This post is excellent and will help me get started out properly.
I believe the yellow rear wing is a RedCat trademark. I don't prefer it's look either but I have read that it is pretty durable and should take some hits and flipts without breaking. Gonna go get some locktite today...What's the best glow plug to get for this and the .28 SH engine?[sm=shades_smile.gif]

How do I install servos in the Monsoon?I don't know which screws will fit to screw down the servos.

i like to use the O.S. a3 witch is a hot plug in my monsoon but everybody is diff. you will just have to try a few and see what you like

The engine I want to use for my kit has to be started by a box. Is there a racing engine that doesn't need a starter box?

Rookie here....

Any pointers for cold weather (20-30's Fahrenheit ambient temperatures) new engine break in on the Monsoon?:eek:.

Also, anyone know what the bag of black plastic circular clips and rings are for that RedCat provides separately in the small bag?

wrap the head in tin foil and try to do in garage lol(with door open for fumes to escape. The round clips are shock spacers. YOu can put them above the spring. More of them or the bigger ones compress the springs a bit.

can someone please recommend a good servo for my monsoon. i just put on proline crime fighter 40series tires and axial beadlock wheels. now with the stock servo, i can't even turn the wheels to either side. the servo tries to move, but it's not able to.

That servo will probably require an external BEC - I'm not sure if the Redcat receiver will supply enough juice.

But I thought BEC's were for electric cars and trucks, not nitros. Why wouldn't the receiver give the servos enough juice?
