upgrading servo's
 

im wanting to upgrade the servos, i already got the steering to a 2018 traxxas high torque.. what would be a good one for the throttle/brake? same one or no... and if you havent upgraded ur servos, id do it, the steering response is alot more quicker.

I am assuming that the Traxxas servo that is listed here is for a 1/10 or smaller type RC. The torque would not be enough to drive the 1/8 scale steering properly!
The Hitech is allittle more money but it has more than double the torque! As for throttle/brake servo I am not sure, I think you may want something similar to the steering but again I am unsure!

i just need a throttle/brake one.. i got the 2018 for steering, its a brand new servo, very quick response than the stock, lol or would the 2018 be fine for throttle/reverse, than get a hitech for the steering?

i dont see why it wouldnt work for steering, its alot quicker than the stock, like 2-3 times quicker than the stock one i had atleast

What size RC are you using it on? I bought a Spectrum Radio and it came with two servo's, the two servo's were not strong enough for my 1\8 scale buggy both had about 40-50 oz-in of torque. They work great just not strong enough when the car is on the ground! I think if you run a 1/10 or smaller your servo should be fine! But again its just my opinion! Also if it works, it works, right......my experience was that the lower torque servo did not turn the wheels all the way when on the ground!

most servo's wont be able to turn 1/8 truggy tires while on the ground.

Mine is a 1/8 buggy! But what you are saying is that a servo with 120-130 oz-in torque won't work on a truggy!

it would, but you will pay for it, (if you read what i said, i did say "most" not all) those are big wheels to move on the ground while not moving, it would take alot of torque to move those wheels at a dead stop. i have the spektrum setup in my hurricane buggy and the front wheels move fine with the stock servo's. there are 2 servo's in the spektrum, on for steering one for throttle, make sure you have them setup the right way.

when i say stock, i mean the stock spektrum servo's, not the stock redcat ones.

Ok I put the spectrum servo's back on and I find that the throttle servo works great and the steering servo is a little slower and weaker than stock (redcat) steering servo, but is acceptable! I think I would preffer the higher torque servo like the Hitech 645 for steering on a 1/8 model, I would stick with the stock(redcat) servo but it not very accurate and jitters alot![&o]

tyhodge07 I would use the 2018 servo for the throttle and get a higher torque servo such as the Hitech for the steering.........I guess it also depends on the size of the RC, tires, and how you want the steering to react! Street driving requires less torque from the steering servo than say driving in the grass!

An awesome cheap servo for steering is the traxxas 2055 servo. It has alot more torque than the 2018. I put it on my buggy and it works great. Hell for about 10 buck on ebay or less you can get one. The stock spektrum 590 steering servo should be alot better than you stock redcat servo and should be more than enough to turn buggy wheels because I have it on all of my truggies.

The 2055 is also real good for the throttle too. Had one on another buggy of mine and it would lock the brakes up as hard as you want compared to stock.

its the 1/10 tornado.. its a new 2018 servo, i bought it for my rustler, but not using it cuz i sold the rustler.. its the same servo in my pede for steering also, but it does make it turn alot quick and alot more when its on the ground.. im tryin to stay in a nice price range, since im saving up for a house and dont want to spend 30, 40 or w/e on a servo.. would i be better off puttin the 2018 for throttle/rev and gettin a 2055 for steering, or the other way around, ill prolly stay traxxas, cuz ive had the best luck with traxxas servos.

Traxxas 2055 is a good compromise between the 2018 and Hitech 645 here is the specs, this would steer the 1/10 model very well!

alright, ill move the 2018 to the throttle and get a 2055 for the steering.. i also got my other parts on the wya.. so now ican finally run my buggy once it all gets here :D
