Motor problem, need help

Ok, so I just started to run my motor when it stalled today. I tried to restart it and it wouldn't start. I checked everything. I spun the flywheel to see if the motor is blown and it has some resistance. when i try to start it, it will sound like it wants to start and then there will be a backfire sound. I tried tuning the needles, checked the glow plug and it all looks good. Could it be blown?

i doubt it, i never really heard an rc engine backfire, lol. I would suggest changing the plug anyways, sometimes they light up but they may still not be good. if your talking about a .18 or smaller use an os a3

Thanks, It's a Tornado BB BTW. I was messing with the flywheel and when it turns, it does not turn like it used to. The motor is not backfiring but it makes a strange noise when I try to start it. I will try to change the plug and see if it helps.

what do you mean by it doesnt turn like it used to?

well when it turned before, it would turn but then would stop unless i turned it hard and i could hear a little compression after i turned it. but now it does it a little easier and feels like it clicks twice when i turn it. I just tried to start it again a few minutes ago and the glow plug is done, so i need a new one and i guess i will see where it goes from there.

your probably fine, try the plug and let me know how it works out.

Yeah. same here with my volcano. Like when u pull the pull start it feels a little softer to the pull?It could be something wrong with your pullstart mechanism. It could be your OWB might be a little oily or gunk in it? Or your glow plug is not inserted correctly and you crossed threaded it thus messing up the entire egine(doubt it). But if your going to get a new glow plug go with the os a3 if you have a .18 egine. Also EHOOF I did tightend the cooling head and it still leaks. Under the cooling head is there suppose to be a gasket?

RE: Motor problem, need help

there should be a round shim there, is that where the leak is coming from?

RE: Motor problem, need help

well. I take a look at it. So i have to look for a round shim. kk. should i put gasket sealer?

ok. i took apart the cooling head. Now i can see the piston. But theres no fuel on the cooling head. I think the problem is the carberator.

RE: Motor problem, need help

its very possible, check out where the carb meets the block but i doubt it since the engine suck in air thru the carb. make sure the fuel nipple is tight on the high speed needle.

yeah. Finally found the problem. I looked at the fuel nipple and along side the fueline there was a tiny nitch. put water in the fuel line and watched it leaked out. It wasnt much to catch my attetion. But found it! YAY! No more oceans on my volcano. Thx. I thought I did a good check on my fuel line but didnt see that little nitch by the HSN fuel nipple.

glad you found the problem bro!!!

JDM yeah. Try tighting the cooling head. More compression and more restiance with the pull start?

RE: Motor problem, need help

yeah. Thx. I would never suspected that little nitche in the fuel line.

RE: Motor problem, need help

It could be the pull start, for a while now it does not crank like it should. I pull it and it will crank once and then just pull the rest. I will mess with it when i get the new glow plug tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Oh yeah. If your going to take apart the pull start watch out for the recoil spring. It might pop out on you. And its not really that difficult to rewind the spring. Here is a link that teaches how to fix pull start mechanism: http://www.dg-rc.co.uk/catalog/nitro_pull_starter.php

While you're in there clean the OWB with some break clean. And re-oil it. I use WD-40 if you dont have that you could use that mystery oil or 3in-1 oil. Also the compression problem maybe the cooling head or the glow plug not being tight enough. So take a look at that also. Good luck.
