pull start problems
having problems with the pull start on my xl....its only catching occasionally....is that the one-way bearing going out?
|
RE: pull start problems
clean the one way bearing with some brake cleaner it will fix it right up!
|
RE: pull start problems
sweet..easy fix then
|
RE: pull start problems
yeah. I agree with syclone clean it. Then oil it with some WD-40 or you will be hearing loud screaching sounds.

RE: pull start problems
you may want to sand the shaft a little with 220 sand paper, make sure you clean it off good before you put the one way bearing on, just scuff it up a little, even some coarse steel wool

RE: pull start problems
ehoof. I think I have the same problem with my pull start. Ok here it goes. When my car gets cleaned out and put in garage for the night. Then the next day I can start it on like the Second pull. Then I run it a bit until tank runs out of fuel. I put more fuel while the egines off, then I try to pull and it wont start on the thirs or fifth pull, I have to to pull like 12 times to get it started. I've primed it the same way 15mins ago and its not flooded. It just feels looser then the first time I started it 15mins ago. Would it be because of the hot egine parts expanding and I lost compression and have to wait for it to cool down. Or I have to scuff up the OWB a little since after run oil gives the egine a little restiance.

RE: pull start problems
why do u wait till the car runs out of gas why not refuel while the car is on so u dont have to keep turning it on and off

RE: pull start problems
does it grab when you pull the pullstart? turn the engine over but it just wont start. If thats the case either your running too hot or your engine is shot. Does the compression feel alot less when the engine is warm?
|
RE: pull start problems
Ok. It starts on the second or third pull when is cold. And when its warm the compression does feel a bit softer and it starts on like the 12th pull. I think its not running hot. I have the HSN and 3 turns open from close setting and the lowspeedneedle flush with the collar. Dont have a thermometer(too expensive). And I did the spit test you were talking about. When I have the egine reving at full throtle to medium throttle at 10mins the spit sizzles less than a second. But idle at 5 mins it evaporates slowly. I think it may be my driving skills or up the needle on the lowspeed and hispeed.

RE: pull start problems
if it sizzles in less than a second your too hot, richen the hsn a little more, the low speed a little too then see how it starts when warm.
|
RE: pull start problems
If its too hot shoudnt he fatten it up, not lean it out?
|
RE: pull start problems
yes, sorry, i dont know why i typed that, wasnt paying attention, meant to say richen
|
RE: pull start problems
KK. Maybe 1/8 of a turn towards richer on low speed and hi speed needles. I'll try that.

RE: pull start problems
forget a pullstart get a starterbox :D i have both a pullstart and a starter box for my kyosho so when i go to the track i use that starter box and when it runs out of batterys i use pullstart [sm=drowning.gif]

RE: pull start problems
My pull rope pulled completely out this weekend on my tornado XL. Can I reinstall the rope, or do I need to replace the assembly? Would it be worth installing an electric starter?
Thanks |
RE: pull start problems
electric starters are easier, you can try to rebuild your starter, if you go to hpi they have a link to rebuilding one, it cant hurt to try, i would suggest replacing it with an hpi pullstart, the one for the .15 te. if you do a bump box or electric start you will have to have a charged battery in order to use it, not to mention another thing to carry.
