Shockwave idle problem
I just bought a new shockwave and went to break it in and when i started the motor the wheels started spinning so i adjusted the idle but nothing happened idle stayed the same, so i took the clutch bell off to see if it was a broken clutch spring but all was fine, so reassembles motor and started again but still have the same problem. How do i fix this problem? Is the carb bad or something? I just want to get it broke in so i can run it. Please help.

RE: Shockwave idle problem
you probably have to turn the idle down on the transmitter using the th trim knob.

RE: Shockwave idle problem
I have have it centered at the moment i've turned it down and then the motor stalls
|
RE: Shockwave idle problem
turn it down, then raise the idle screw until the carb is open about 1mm. whats happening is that the screw is set too low and when you adjust the trim or hit the brake the carb is closing, you need to have the screw set so the carb doesnt close when you hit the brake or turn the trim down but keeps the carb open enough to idle but not idle too high so the car keeps trying to move.

RE: Shockwave idle problem
i've tried that but still no luck even when the trim is turned down the wheels still move when the idle screw is adjusted the idle remain the same no matter how far or which way it is turned

RE: Shockwave idle problem
when you say the wheels move, do you mean off the ground, if the wheels are moving off the ground they will, when on the ground, it may move slightly. the idle should stay the same even when you hit the brake if adjusted correctly. if you hit the brake and the idle lowers or the car stalls, then the idle is too low and needs to be raised.

RE: Shockwave idle problem
the wheels move more than just a little even when placed on the ground
|
RE: Shockwave idle problem
even though the clutch shoes and spring looks good could it still be defective?
|
RE: Shockwave idle problem
if its not stalling it sounds like the idle is set too high, the sign of a bad or broken spring is stalling when you hit the brake and your not able to start it on the ground. try lowering the trim on the radio, if it stalls raise the idle using the screw on the carb, the one with the spring on it. clockwise raises the idle. slowly lower the trim and see if you can lower the idle and stop it from moving then adjust the screw as needed.

RE: Shockwave idle problem
I will give it a try tomorrow and see what happens i will keep you posted on the outcome. thanks for the help. I've never had any problems like this before my mgt was easy to tune. I will leave another post when i get home tomorrow. THANKS again for your time!!

RE: Shockwave idle problem
I finally got it to idle without moving but i had to turn the throttle trim way down because everytime i went to turn the idle screw down it would die when i applied the brakes. anyways i have another slight problem my engine is running hot even when the high speed needle is turned out 3 turns any ideals?

RE: Shockwave idle problem
make sure you set your idle screw. If you hit the brake and it stalls out, the idle screw has to be turned in a bit.
what temps are you running? also check all fuel lines, gas tank cap, and around motor for air leaks. |
RE: Shockwave idle problem
Got idle screw set. All fuel lines look to be fine, fuel tank seems to be fine also. I can't seem to find any air leaks do you have any certain way to tell if the motor has an air leak? The motor runs at around 260's-290's which seems to be a little high at one time it reached 300 so i shut it down and this is all with the needle 3 turn out still after breakin. when i measured the temps i measured them with an hpi temp gauge right at the glow plug should i leave a little distance between the temp gauge and the glow plug?
