Well its time to make my purchase

Hello all
I got it narrowed down to volcano and tsunami. I don't plan to bash much but will be doing a lot of track racing. I 'm leaning towards the tsunami more for a track vechile. From what I can see you can hop up the tsunami just as well. This will be my only post asking for your opinions I promise. Has anyone change the tires and rims on the tsunami? what would be a good track tire.

The Tsunami is great on the track. I know some people that race it with the single speed and they do very well. Try using Traxxas Rustler rear wheels with Pro line bow ties.

Hey. I'm stuck on what car to pick also. I have brought it down to Volcano SV, Hurricane XP, Tornado XP, and Tsunami. I do bashing and drive (not race) on a track I built and my only concern about the Tornado would be ground clearance. How much does it have? How much does the Tsunami have?

I would personally go with the 1/8 scale models. I have a tornado bb, and quickly learned it was not big enough or heavy enough to play around where I wanted it to go. I now own a Hurricane XP and I gotta say the thing is a terror. ;)

Yes I know but, I like the look of the Tornado and was wondering how much clearance it had?

What is the rim an wheel size on the tsunomi?

wolverine330 11-02-2007 04:44 PM

RE: Well its time to make my purchase

clearance on the tornado is around an 1".....just looked at mine. Possibly 1 1/2".......And that is with my shocks moved and the spring compressed for added height...

So how are these in short grass?

BackYardRacer 11-02-2007 05:04 PM

RE: Well its time to make my purchase

They are ok in short grass. In thick, loose dirt, and thick grass, it wont be your friend. The 1/10 buggy runs better in short grass and hard packed dirt, the volcano has more clearance, runs better in grass in my opinion. But if you get either of them, your gunna want to put on a single speed upgrade because both suck in any grass with the 2 speed. They did for me anyways. 2 speed is to much pressure, plus when it shifts the rpms go down so in a way your loosing speed

Thanks. I got another question. It's about the break-in. For my last nitro I broke it in with 6 tanks. I idled 3 and gradually drove faster for the other three. Would this be ok for these cars?

wolverine330 11-02-2007 05:23 PM

RE: Well its time to make my purchase

Simple answer. DO THE TRAXXUS BREAK-IN........watch them on youtube, they have all 22 chapters there, watch the ones you want...Great Break-in

So there is about 1/2inch ground clearance difference in the volcano and tornado with the volcano being higher?

BackYardRacer 11-02-2007 07:40 PM

RE: Well its time to make my purchase

plus the volcanos tires are bigger, that helps in the grass and thick/rough terrain.

You can use the redcat 5 tank break in. thats what most folks do i think. thats what i did and was reckomended to do. idle 1 tank, then 1/4 throttle, 1/4 throttle again, 1/2 throttle, 3/4 throttle. Somethin like that. I havent look at the traxxis break in yet tho

It's the same thing except instead of a figure eight pattern it's a straight pass.

Now if I'm correct, with gearing and engine changes, the volcano and tornado should go the same speed right?

get a 1/8th car. its worth it. they are only about $100 bucks difference, and you will spend that much on parts on the 1/10 cars if you beat on them any at all. I love my tsunami, but if i had it to do over again, i would have bought the monsoon or avalanche and never looked back...

So should I not get a 1/10?

Syclone354 11-02-2007 08:52 PM

RE: Well its time to make my purchase

obviously you should stay in your budget, but if your budget allows, it sounds to me like the 1/8th cars are lightyears ahead of the 1/10th cars. I personally dont have one, YET, but i am definitely getting one. but from the looks of the construction you would think they were two different companies

You better look or ask at your track if the have a 4x4 class for that truck...............they might but its not likely[&o] 4x4 buggies 2 wheel trucks and 4x4 monster trucks are the biggest classes.............I personally hope that the 1/10 4x4 truck gets a class of its own soon because there a lot of fun;) want to be right there with no problems get that Hurricane and never look back:D

Go 1/8 scale. You wont be dissapointed. 1/8 is sooooo much more durable which means less parts in the long run. If you want to race at all the tsunami will need some work to be able to handle a track. The Monsoon is ready out of the box. 1/8 scale truggy is very popular and if you want to race the tsunami you will have to race 1/10 scale monster truck.

So should I not get a 1/10?

This is what I tell customers when they ask 1/10th or 1/8th scale which is better. 1/10th costs less, but the best bang for your buck is goign to be the 1/8th scale for a few extra bucks you get a hard hitting, ground pounding, grass trashing, gigantic bang for the buck and less stuff tends to break on the 1/8th scale vehicles, unless you get it run over by a tractor trailer not much is going to break.

Then if I get a 1/8 it will be the hurricane. But I like the volcano so is it strong?

I'm still stumped as to what car. Between Volcano and Tornado? Are these tough. Please.

Cen I have personally rolled filped and cartwheeled my Volcano SV more times than i can count. I have also due to my rx bateries going almost dead slid sidways at full speed into a heavy box. All in all the dammage amounted to two bent wheel stub axle's $5 to replace with the filpping and stuff 3 bent shocks replacing all 8 with t-maxx $32 and i also broke my servo saver it was like $2 or $3 so all in all after hellish punishment just to see what it would take in stock yes stock form it cost me $40 and that is with one gal of gas through it. Now most people will not have had this sort of thing in one gal but i am really hard on my toys because thats what they are to me a man's toy. Now if your on a budget and i know you are you wont be as hard on it as i was. but still $40 not bad at all Get the Volcano SV. You will be more than happy with it. Drive it for a while that decide if you want more accelleration or more top speed and go from there I am sure if you ever do decide that everyone here that has tried to help you get a great starter will help you make it like you want it and point you into the right direction. Just ion case you missed it get the VOLCANO SV
