Need help with diff fluids.
In my truggy and I changed out the stock diff fluids from when I got it to 10k center 7k in front and 3k in rear. It seemed like it did not make a difference the first couple of times I drove it but now it wants to fishtale alot and spin out in the turns and I mean pretty bad. Also when I come out of a turn and into the straight when I am able to hit the throttle all the way it swaps side to side pretty good like it wants to come around but does not. I have checked the front diff already and everything is fine and it is not in 2wd, its not that bad. I still am not too familiar with what the different fluids do. I think I should change the rear diff fluid to a thicker but how much? If I change it to 5k will that make a big difference since I had 3k in it already? I am thinking of putting 10k in it. Or should I change the center diff fluid which I think really only tunes the front wheels. Please help!

here bro, some reading: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_54...tm.htm#5493396

do thicker in the center, like 7front 10 center and 3 rear, this way the front will grab more.
the thicker the center the more the front grabs and pulls you around the corners, thick in the front and rear will make the front or rear tires be more of a posi. |
RE: Need help with diff fluids.
I read that already, dennis sent it to me. That I why think I should thicken the rear diff fluid but will going from 3k to 5k make a big difference or should I just put the 10k in it?

"right now your front is too thick. with 10k in the center and 7k in the front the center can't spin the front as easy as the back. so your getting a little too much power to the rear. most of the time you should run 3-5k up front. a good starting point is 3f-10c-5r. you want some powerup front and a little more in the rear. right now you have it backwards. understand what i'm saying?" |
RE: Need help with diff fluids.
i have always heard the opposite, med, thick, thinner but it cant hurt to try something different if you think it will help. experiment and try it out.

RE: Need help with diff fluids.
I just hate taking the diffs off and apart![:@] and if I do not like it I have to do it again, it sucks!

RE: Need help with diff fluids.
lol, i know, maybe ask some people at your local track or dennis and see what he says, if he is running the same as you, check your diff gears, make sure nothing is hanging up, take the dogbones out from the center to the front and rear diffs and see if all feels good when your turning the wheels.

RE: Need help with diff fluids.
dennis suggested changing the rear to 5k everyone is saying to lower the front. Hell I already have the rear diff out before I asked these questions so I am just going to change it to 5k and see how it is.

Actually I finally took my diff apart today and it was EMPTY![X(] no diff oil at all.. Funny thing is that the case that enclosed the complete diff on my mantis is not wet like it was leaking or anything. Only thing I can think of is it had a slow leak and after me running it everytime I would just wash it off and maybe never noticed that it was wet around it and it eventually leaked all out. That it most likely my problem why it was spinning out easy. So I put new orings in it and filled up with 5k oil and we will see when I get it installed.

This subject sounds like it mostly applies to racing. Does it make any difference for bashing? I just ordered 2 Avalanches, is this something i should check on them? Do they even have fluid in the diffs?
|
RE: Need help with diff fluids.
not really for the trucks and bashing, it wouldnt hurt, you will love the avalanche, i love mine, i have 2 of them too. i have to make some vidoe over the thanksgiving weekend or maybe this sunday.

RE: Need help with diff fluids.
They usually have grease or fluid. My monsoon looked like it had grease and my hurricane looked like it had fluid. I do not think you would notice it too much for bashing. I usually do not run my cars anywhere else but the track so I cannot say for sure.
By the way I finally changed the diff fluid in the rear and it was a little better but still spun alot. I called the shop I bought it from because he has one he races and said for me to put 20k in the center that 10k was too thin that it is not distributing the power evenly to the front and back . So thats my next project. Update when I am done. |
RE: Need help with diff fluids.
you can go online and get set up sheets from pro drivers. Depending on thr type of surface your usually running it on. I hate to plug another manufactures site but, it is for educational purposes. Ofnaracing.com can give you an ideas of how to set up vehicles for different conditions. Check it out ,it might help. Good luck
