Pull Starter
Hi all!
I have a Hurricane XP .28 This thing is fast and fun! I broke it in with 20% nitro, I ran about a gallon threw it. I switched to 33% nitro and wow is it faster! But the fuel time on one full tank is way less. Anyway my starter is shot I think. It doesn't seem to grab. Do I need a new one? Can i fix it? If I need a new starter I might just go and get a Cen Roto start. L http://www.clermontmotorsports.com/s...l?sfs=af2d82c8 |
RE: Pull Starter
I dont think the cen roto start will work but this one will work http://www.redcatracing.com/itemdeta...partno=70111sh

RE: Pull Starter
Thanks. I probably need a backing plate to huh? I also need new tires, wheel nuts. Ill probably just order it all from redcat.
Whats the difference between a starter box and a screw driver type starter setup? |
RE: Pull Starter
not alot they both just start your buggy but the starter box does it by spinning the flywheel from the bottom of the car and yes you will need the backplate
|
RE: Pull Starter
Cool thanks. Blue
which one do you think is better? |
RE: Pull Starter
The redcat starter comes with the backing plate, just no battery. So you will need a battery.

RE: Pull Starter
Hope I'm not intruding but out of the three Of course I like mine the best :D Its a pertty strong unit and I have a combo on it[:-] by its self its [link=http://xtm-dealer.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products _id=163]THIS[/link] and in a Combo its like [link=http://xtm-dealer.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products _id=180]THIS[/link] and I hate to say it but from your discription your problem could be a dirty OWB, I would clean that up first and see what happens;)
|
RE: Pull Starter
I agree, its the one-way bearing. More than likely.
Wolv. |
RE: Pull Starter
thanks guys,
How do I go about cleaning the OWB? L |
RE: Pull Starter
take the pull start off carefully and pull out the bearing and I use orange 406 to clean bearings then use bearing oil to lubricate after cleaning but there are many ways to do it and im sure someone will tell you im wrong to do it there way but you cant pretty much do it however you wnat just make sure you lube it before you put it back in and make sure you watch how it comes out and make sure it goes back in the same way
|
RE: Pull Starter
if its the sh .28 its inside the engine, you have to take the backplate off, it may be the fuel your using, traxxas top fuel is one of the worst oil wise, i use byrons race proven, never messes up the one ways. you have to be careful with the oil content on an internal one way bearing. clean with carb cleaner and take the shaft it goes on and scuff it up with some fine sandpaper. this should take care of the problem for a while.

RE: Pull Starter
I switched from 15 to 33 percent nitro. Maybe that did it. Running it on the beach this weekend probably didnt help either. lol. I have to take it apart and see whats what.
What do you guys use as far as starters go need more in info, thanks. |
RE: Pull Starter
pullstart or bump box
|
RE: Pull Starter
i use starter box so much easier i love it :D
|
RE: Pull Starter
I use the roto start. I like it better. Not as bulky as a starter box. Plus alot of people have been having problems turning over there new motors with the bump boxes. Unless they heat the motor up with a hair dryer :)
|
RE: Pull Starter
I used to have roto start. It is easier to keep on you while your running around. I did switch to starter box though because I was able to reduce engine weight and drag by getting rid of roto start plate and One way bearing w/ shaft. If you running more than one model stick with roto start.

RE: Pull Starter
WOW it fixed itself. Well Actually i was cleaning it today and sprayed some Mass Airflow Cleaner into the engine and carburetor and hand cranked. The pull starter grabs again! it works! It was probably all gummed up. I guess that's all it needed. I wish I would have thought of this a long time ago. Missed some good weather. Anyway my entire car is apart now. Waiting for backing plate to come in the mail. I cant believe how dirty everything is. This is the first time i took it apart. There is sand absolutely everywhere!! Running it on the beach is not a good idea! Fun, but not fun to clean!
cheers, |
RE: Pull Starter
I have starter question.....Can I use a cordless drill to start my rc using the roto stick? If so, are there any guidelines for using a drill as far as rpm goes? This is an SH28 I'll be starting.
|
RE: Pull Starter
Yes a drill will work great. No rpm guidelines. The faster it goes the faster it will start but make sure you prime the engine first so the engine is lubed.
