Getting frusterated
Ok so i have a version of the Volcano SV. Its not a red cat but it has the same motor and stuff.
Anyways i am having trouble getting it started and about to just give up. I have been waiting along time to get a nitro car and now i cant even play with the thing. I didnt and dont think it should be this hard to get started. I have went through all the FAQ's and stuff on how to get it started. And the only way i can start it is basically by flooding it and getting a bunch of fuel in the carb then it starts and it revs really fast even with the throttle closed to idle, so fast it makes the tires ballon out. The glow plug is fine i pulled it out and stuck it on the glow charger and it lit up like it is supposed to. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? I have ordered the electric start maybe that will help i dont know. Sometimes it will start but only for a second then it dies. Things i have tried... I have warmed the engine with a hair dryer Unscrewed the glow plug a turn I have closed both needles and did the 3 turn on the high needle and 2 turns on the low needle, which is what my instructions said to do. And nothing i just keep pulling and pulling and getting these darn blisters. After i do that for a min or so i richen the needles and still nothing. Like i said the only way i can get it started is to blow in the exaust fuel line to force gas in the engine. But that make it rev way to high and it just keeps going until i shut it off. Which is pretty soon after. So any suggestions? Thanks |
RE: Getting frusterated
Take the air cleaner off and make sure the carb is 1mm open. If not then adjust the idle screw clockwise until it is open 1mm. Make sure your fuel tank lid is closed and is sealing well. Make sure the tube from the exhaust to the tank is connected.
This is all I can think of. Chris |
RE: Getting frusterated
Have you primed the engine? If not put your finger over the exhaust and slowly pull the pull start watch the fuel line and when fuel has made it to the carb pull once more and let go of the exhaust, now put the glow plug ignitor on and try to start. Hope this helps

RE: Getting frusterated
Set the low end needle flush with the housing not just 2 turns out, it's the needle where the throttle linkage hooks up to the carb. It sounds like the engine is going lean right after startup causing it to rev high. Check to make sure the hole in the muffler where the fuel pressure line hooks up is clear from obstruction ( run a small drill bit thru it ). Sometimes they don't get drilled properly from the factory so you get no fuel pressure.

RE: Getting frusterated
Thanks for the replies, everyone
The first two replies, I've tried that stuff. The last one I will try tomorrow and hopefully it'll work. Thanks again. If anyone else can think of anything, let me know. TIA |
