disapointment with sh .18

i jut got my engine 3 days ago i put it in my shockwave with the volcanoe tires and it had trouble pulling then and today i puy the regular tires on it i was driving it trying to tune it and it locked up tearing up my new spur gear im highly peed off if you know what i mean.

and is i possible to have the clutch to close to the spur gear because i had it as close as it would go.

sure, it needs to be meshed correctly, if its too tight it will bind and strip the spur gear

i did just what ehroof and clermont told me too and did the paper trick. same as the thickness of a hair, to get the mesh right. i've had my volcano chassis deep in hard snow. so hard the tires wouldn't spin in fact. but my spur is fine.
proper mesh is important.

ya u cant push it all they way. it will bind. thats just as bad as having it to far away or even worse

how do i do the paper trick

Insert a piece of paper in between the teeth of the gears. Get them close enough that you can pull the piece of paper through and you have it set after its tightened.

Proper mesh. There should be No holes where the gears have pierced the paper. The paper should be still fairly crease free as well.

oh and did u ut a smaller clutch bell on it. even with the better engine i would think that u would still need to go with a 13 tooth.

RE: disapointment with sh .18

you run a piece of paper between the spur and clutch bell, it should come out perforated but not torn, there should be a tiny bit of play between the gears.

If you have a 2 speeds transmission make sure that both gears are meshed correctly. It is possible to have it at an angle so one gear feels like its meshed fine and the other is too tight. The paper trick should prevent this but just double check. Make sure once you get it back together and meshed correctly that you feel the amount of play in the gears for future reference. Once you know what it should feel like then you wont need to hassle with the paper.

First off why are you trying to tune it when it has not been broken in yet?

even with a single speed your motor can be racked. You need to check gear mesh and angle between the gears.

How are you supposed to correctly mesh the 2speeds? iv'e tryed the paper trick and cant get the paper out in one peice, and if i manage to get it out in one peice, the mesh is way to loose..anyone else have this problem?
