Thinking about going brushless....

I just got my tsunami EPX this week and been having lots of fun with it. Im looking to make it faster, but Im worried about shorter run times. I was thinking about doing a 15t motor or getting the brushless upgrade. What kind of runtimes are you guys getting on dirt with your brushless on the stock 1800mah battery? I also have the 3000mah battery from them and will be picking up a couple of GP3300 batteries soon. TIA

RE: Thinking about going brushless....

I wouldn't use the 1800 or 3000mAh battery on the brushless. It'll get too hot. Not exactly sure on the runtime but it's definately longer than brushed. If you are getting new battery's I'd get some ener-G 4600's.

Link to those batteries? So im guessing by your comment that the brushless is more efficient than brushed?

yes it is. http://www.boomboombatteries.com/product_p/4600_6c.htm or this http://www.boomboombatteries.com/pro...7c_traxxas.htm

Also, what brushed motor (turns) would recommend? I want something that gives me decent runtimes, but at the same time give me a nice power gain over the stock motor.

brushless all the way!!!
for brushed it also depends on the speed controll but i would gues a 17t-19t would be fine for just bashing:D

RE: Thinking about going brushless....

I'd just go to brushless. for how much it would cost for a decent brushed esc/motor, you could have bought the brushless.

Do not waste your time and money with low turn brushed motors. The new brushless technology is the way to go.
A group of us here just went through this (low turn motors) and the gearing is way too tall and you will just fry the motors, (we went through the gearing thing as well) I meen melt the plastic bell right out of them! I wasted two Trinity motors this way!
I went back to all stock for awhile and my truck runs just as good as a low turn motor running a 5000mha battery, stock motor and brush conditioner. And a new stock motor is $9.00.

So, I went brushless, the Red Cat system is affordable ($120.00), durable, very fast and way more efficiant than a brushed system.

On the batterys, get the highest MHA battery you are willing to put the money out for!!!! also, do not get them hot when charging them, this will take all the snap out of them.

go brushless with a lipo. I will post another video tonight of mine. Only warning. Plan on getting a new driveshaft. I had some custom ones made and will sell them once the testing is done.3 weeks of bashing and the new shaft is holding up perfect. :)

Anyone running brushless using nimh batteries? What run times are you getting?

cons? Need a better drvie shaft thats about it lol.

and bearings. Do that out of the box so they don't melt like mine (that's really bad if it's an aluminum carrier, mine melted to the carrier)

you gotta love brushless and lipo bro, i still cant get over mine, its crazy, i started with one and ended up getting 4 of them from you, lol. tornado, volcano, tsunami and put one in my rustler too, i love it

believe it or not i never changed over from the bushings to the bearings.. It is my 9 year old daughters lol.

oh well I never changed either. I figured I'd wait till they go bad. big mistake. Brushless+bushings+aluminum carriers=bushings melted to carrier (it's going to be fun getting the bushing out)

Nice video Clermont. That thing is WAY faster than a Stock (or Non- Stock Probably) Nitro Motor. Especially off the line. I can see why People are Starting to go ELECTRIC again.
I HATE the way they SOUND though! Sounds like Kupplers Ferret havin an Orgasm![X(]

What pinion is that? Because my 8 cell seems to get more top end but no where near the low end torque as yours

ehroof 03-02-2008 11:57 AM

RE: Thinking about going brushless....

its not the pinion, its the smaller tires that gives him the torque, the lightning has a larger spur than the volcano
