Shockwave engine help

Hey Guys

Got my shockwave yesterday and am ready to start my break in but heres my problem....

When I start the engine, it revs high and the wheels start turning instantly. I have tried to adjust the trim on the transmitter, unfortunately redcat must be shipping a new unit because the instructions don't show this one at all and there are now about 3 additional adjustments that can be made on the left side where the reverse switches were. I have tried bringing my idle screw down a bit but this is not helping so far. Do I still have the idle needle out too far or is this something else??

Fortunatly redcat has made a wise choice to go with the futaba controlers. When you start the car and hit the brake what happens?

That is a very good question I hadn't tried it yet as with my last car when the engine started it would idle :) It is too late tonight to give this a shot and it is raining but first thing tomorrow if its not raining I will put it back on the block outside and give this a shot an post the results.

RE: Shockwave engine help

Ok so we finally had some nice weather today and I was able to go back to testing. After doing some more reading on the forums here I have made some adjustments to my settings. Here is approximatly where I am....

LSN: Flush with jacket
Idle: currently a little high as I think the hole in the carb (not sure on how to phrase this right) is probably about 3-4mm wide and I will adjust tomorrow
HSN: Currently about 2 and 1/2 turns from shut
I have also adjusted the throttle trim a bit and was able to get the wheels to stop moving... once

Currently when I turn over the engine now, if I remove the igniter the engine dies, if i give it some throttle it seems that it goes for a few seconds then chokes out. If I give it break it seems like nothing happends (not surprising i dont think).

At this point I think my HSN is set a little too high, I am spitting TONS of fuel out of the exhaust and I seem to choke out when I try to throttle up. I will be setting the HSN back to closed then going 2 full turns instead of 2 and 1/2 to see if this helps. Any other suggestions from the pros??

Any and All Help is Welcomed.

First turn on your truck and remote,(engine not running) hit the gas then release. then check your servo position at neutral(after you let go), the arm on your carb should be as far back as it goes, and your brakes should not be applied at all. Adjustments to your idle should be done now. I would close your idle to 1-2 mm(about 1/16"). Things can get tricky if you adjust your other needles before properly adjusting your idle. you end up making the mixture to rich or too lean to compensate for the high or low idle.

2 1/2 on the hsn is a good setting for a new motor.
Where in ontario are you??

Good luck,
Adam

Success at last!

I have my engine at what I think is an acceptable idle....

At full trim the wheels are turning only slightly (looks like it might move a few inches in a minute) and im shooting fuel out of my exhaust.
Also if i hit the throttle the engine no longer dies it will now respond as it should.

Thanks for all the tips gang cant wait to go out an play! LOL
