spur gear to clutch bell

just wondering if any one know if the same spaceing is needed between gears if changed spur gear to metal gear. or should they mesh tooth to tooth!!!!!

You should still have about the same amount of space. If there too tight they'll strip both gears if there too loose you'll snap the teeth off the spur gear.
