Easiest way is a clutchbell with 1 or 2 fewer teeth than stock.

This is for a volcano sv has the dirct drive upgrade with thirteen tooth clutch bell. Would it be easier to change gear in tranny or get a smaller clutchbell and if so where?

i heard you can get a bigger spur by i think hpi or something, you have to mod it a bit but it fits. i think wade knows. That or you can get a 11 or 12t cb

but if you get a smaller cb im pretty sure you have to shim the motor up, juts so it can still mesh.

You can fit the HPI 47T or 49T spur for the Savage - not the Savage X - by using [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFYP5&P=7]this slipper kit[/link] (for the purple tube thing and the bushing - but any 5x11 bushing will work) and [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDZW3&P=V]this slipper hub[/link]. Basically you slide the purple bit on the redcat shaft, put the pin through, slide the plate on and finally slide the spur (with bushing) on and drill through the spur into the hub and bolt the spur to the hub.

Here's how I changed my 44 tooth spur to a 49 tooth spur. It'll give you about 11% more low end. My top end stayed the exact same (38 mph) b/c with the 44 t spur I wasn't able to pull max rpms. Changing to a lower tooth clutch should work, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to adjust the engine far enough in to get the gears to mesh. I also have a 52 tooth that I was going to try, but the 49 barely clears, so that's about as much as you can go.


Here's the spur I used. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXFKM1&P=ML. You also need a 11x5x4 bushing and a couple washers as shims to make this work. I just bolted and glued one of the gears from the regular gearbox to this gear to connect it to the drivepin on the shaft.

Your LHS should have a bushing. Tamiya uses that size extensively, as does Traxxas though usually as bearings rather than bushings. A bearing will work perfectly also - you can see that's what grosbc used.
