Brake problem

I am new to RC's and I am having some problems with my brakes on my volcano sv. They worked fine earlier today but then they stopped working all together. Even if I use my finger to push the brake bar down it doesn't even slow the car from a roll. I have been driving it on a very dusty road this weekend. If this has something to do with it how can I clean my brake pads? What else could be the problem?

thanks,
Chris

RE: Brake problem

Check to see if the grub(set) screw that holds the arm and the rod (that goes down to the brake pads) together hasn't fallen out or is loose. Dust shouldn't be the problem, but I use compressed air to clean all the parts every so offen.

RE: Brake problem

The set screw is tight. When I apply pressure to the brake arm the plate flexes but it still does not stop the car at all. It worked earlier that day without a hitch and then all of a sudden wouldn't bring the car to a stop. I don't really understand the braking system on rc cars. The car rolled freely without brake applied also so I don't think I burned up the pads.

What else could it be?

Check the two screws that hold the back brake plate, I found that one of mine had loosened up to the point that when I applied the brake only one side was making contact.

Verifiy the rotor is still locking on cup and not just free spining. I have seen these round out and then free spin on cup stopping nothing when brake is applied.
