RE: vx 18 troubles

nope that didnt help
i should be able to tell that the center part is moving when i turn the screw in right?

RE: vx 18 troubles

the gap will widen when you turn the screw clockwise. when you turn the screw counter-clockwise the gap will close but only so far. if you turn it after the gap stops moving the screw will fall out.

you gotta have ur transmitter and reciever on when you adjust your idle screw, so if u don't, that's ur problem

RE: vx 18 troubles

The Tx and the Rx have absolutely nothing to do with the carb. At least if you have your throttle trim turned all the way down like you should, then it won't, no, wait, it still won't have anything to do with the carb even if you have your throttle trim up. You guys do know that you don't want your servos to control your idle, it should be up to the carb alone to handle that. You need to have your throttle trim all the way to zero, then set your idle screw to where ever you want it.

i have been told from many wiser people on these forms that it does matter that the transmitter and reciever must be on for you to see the idle gap in the carb to move

Perhamrocks, no offense man, I'm not doubting that you've read otherwise, but it doesn't take a pro to understand that the only thing connecting the servo ( or anything electronic ) to the carb, is a piece of metal wire, that's it. Any and all internal combustion engines run by an igniton source, a fuel source, and an oxygen source. Throttle servos don't provide any of the above. All the thorttle sevo does is move the arm, in which opens and closed the carb barrell. Well the carb barrel is stopped at the proper opening with the idle needle. The idle needle, and the idle needle alone controls where the carb barrel stops, not the arm at which it is attached to....hence the arm is controled by the throttle servo and that's all the throttle servo controls, the barrell will stop where the idle needle is set to for it to stop......therefore....NO.....the Tx and the Rx have absolutely nothing to do with where the idle needle stops the carb barrel at it's opening......

RE: vx 18 troubles

We just got a brand new Volcano SV with a VX-18 engine. During the "breaking in process" we got to the point where we were running it at 1/4 throttle and half way through that tank of gas it stalled and we have not been able to get it started since. It is not firing at all, we recharged the glow plug charger to no avail. When cranking the engine over with the pull starter, i see bubbles with gas coming out between the cylinder head and the main body of the engine. Have we blown the cylinder head gasket? I have submitted a warranty inquiry and am waiting to hear back. Is that gasket easily replaced by novices? We are beginners. Thank you in advance for any help.

RE: vx 18 troubles

did u try tightning the head screws

ronelson 04-12-2009 08:24 PM

RE: vx 18 troubles

Yes, they are four screws in the cylinder head, i used an allen wrench and they were tight

RE: vx 18 troubles

is there gas only around the gasket?

ronelson 04-12-2009 08:45 PM

RE: vx 18 troubles

no when i crank it over i get gas and bubbles

RE: vx 18 troubles

Make sure your glow plug has a gasket and and its tight

ronelson 04-13-2009 05:59 AM

RE: vx 18 troubles

its definitely not the glow plug, its the gasket around the cylinder head. is that gasket difficult to replace?

RE: vx 18 troubles

There isnt a gasket between the block and head, there might be a shim or two, but there shouldnt be a gasket.

ronelson 04-15-2009 06:54 AM

RE: vx 18 troubles

Am I safe to take the cylinder head off to look, or is it complicated to reseat it?

RE: vx 18 troubles

A head shim or gasket is the same thing. If your leaking around where the head seals to the block then chances are the head is loose or tightened down improperly (MAYBE). Pull the head it will be a good experience for you but most of the time the leak is coming from the top of the exhaust gasket where the header attaches to the block. It pushes fuel around the head like the head gasket or shim is leaking. You might very carefully check it out [:-] Torque the screws on the head evenly. Make them just a little snug and torque them a little at a time in a cris cross pattern, never tighten one down all the way before any of the others............good luck and HAPPY RC'en ;)
