Torque monster
Hey Redcat enthusiasts, I just got my Volcano all cleaned and ready to run, and put in a new piston and sleeve for the Hyper .21. Got her running smoothly and impressed a few girlies at the park :D Finished building and installing my custom Direct drive made from an old 47T 2 speed spur gear and a 51T Savage X spur gear. Clutch bell was a 12T from HPI. This combination equaled GOBS of torque upon take off with stock speed. With huge 6 inch tires, heavy suspension, and a big block, that's not bad. Wheelies anyone?

There was "so" much torque, the stock one-way bearing that came with my two speed totally shattered. Upon closer inspection, it seems the stock Redcat one-way bearing was made of plastic; no way near strong enough to handle the power of the engine. So I replaced the old with a used yet much stronger, full steel one-way bearing I found in my blown HPI 15FE motor. It was a perfect fit and fit nicely in the stock location. http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/r...09_2048_00.jpg http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/r...09_2052_00.jpg http://i481.photobucket.com/albums/r...09_2052_01.jpg |
RE: Torque monster
Nice dude, that would be sick to throw a big block in mine, i guess thats why i got an 1/8th scale haha. Is that a booster bottle?

Yeah, made from a sharpie. lol

RE: Torque monster
Haha, did it make a difference?

RE: Torque monster
More stable idle, slightly better gas mileage. Not sure if there was a boost in low end, but I'm guessing very little.

RE: Torque monster
That would be nice, what did you do just tap into the block next to the carb?
|
RE: Torque monster
For this particular engine, there is a hole already tapped into the side of the block. It comes factory with just a screw in it; remove the screw, screw in a fitting, and done. Other engines require drilling and tapping just below the carb.
