need help
1 Attachment(s)
I am having problems with my shocks; I have gone through 4 shocks all with the same problems.
The cap at the bottom of the shock body keeps popping off; I am using 40 wt silicon shock oil and once this happens the cap cannot be screwed back on because the threading gets damaged. I am not a hardcore basher; I really don't do wicked jumps because I have only just got into the hobby in may of this year. I dont think redcat makes replacement parts and what I do is use silicon tape inside the threading of the cap and on the outside of the cap I use electrical tape to secure it back on the shock body which holds temporarily until I decide to get a complete new shock. Why is this happening and how can I prevent this? Can I upgrade to better shocks that redcat carries |
RE: need help
Ya that can happen from having too high of weight oil in your shocks. Redcats big bores from the 1/8 ultralites bolt right up like the stockers and they work awesome. Ive got em on my electric volcano and i had em on my nitro before.

RE: need help
how can using 40wt shock oul mess up the threads?
I have simular shocks on my mtr-3...I found the caps would come loose so I emptied the oil, cleaned everything up, and then put some tire glue (super glue) on the threads then tightened them.. let them set fer a couple min...then filled them with oil... this solved the problem... I believe Ive actually had 60wt oil in mine at one time..so I can assure you that putting 40 wt oil didnt mess up the threads (that is unless your shocks are made from less quality aluim then mine,, which I doubt)... |
RE: need help
i used 45 wt oil in mine and never had a problem
|
RE: need help
The only thing i was thinking was that pressure built up and shot the bottom cap off, busting the threads. But 40 wt isnt high enough to do that. I was just saying it can happen.

RE: need help
they dont tighten well Derek...I tried tightening them by hand a couple times before I said screw it and grabbed the glue (my fix all..lol)....
only way I can see his threads getting messed up is by cross threading them...I'm sure a lil bit of blue locktite will do the job also...I'm just not patient enuff for it to dry/cure |
RE: need help
Oh ya thats true, ive never had them so i wouldnt know for sure. Ya anytime something breaks im like what about some super glue haha.
