Bent chassis.

I'm not real sure but, I think I bent the chassis on my Volcano. It doesn't look like the motor sits right now. I took everything off and tried to bend it out some. It was totally my fault. I hit a parking curb going about as fast as it could go. Looks like the motor and the gear box don't quite line up perfectly. Well not at all. Is this normal or do I need another one. I know yall are getting tired of me and all my question. I'm new to this and to Redcat Racing products. I'll take some pictures later and post them up. Went to a race tonight and didn't want to run it in case I chewed up the big plastic gear. Kinda hard to work on to me.

Well its normal if you hit a curb at that speed haha. No way bro i love checking these forums, whenever i get a chance i check em to help people out and even learn things myself. Ask away, we are always more than happy to help a fellow rc'er out. But throw up some pics id like to see the damage, just pick up a new chassis and you should be good, make sure you didnt tweak or break anything else.

1 + You would be better off getting a new chassis plate. You will be forever having probelms with the truck and gearing if you bent it that bad.

Drop us a PM we have several chassis plates around here used in good shape.

Ok. Can yall look at the ones yall have and tell me if they are supposed to be perfectly flat. The front is sticking up some where all of the front items mount on to. I'll take pic's later today. I have to go put up the jet ski now.

RE: Bent chassis.

They have a very slight bend upwards in the front.

Then mine is bent badly. It was way curved up in the front. Also, where the bumper mounts is just fried. The hole for the screw to go in to mount the front bumper is gone. I will take pic's and get them up. I want to race this thing at the local track. So I need to get it all back together by Friday night.

Testing. Here are the pics yall wanted of the bent chassis. I hope they come up. As you can see, it looks bent on the motor side. The front suspension mount of the chassis is really bent and damaged. The receiver side isn't so bad. The back isn't bad either. I took it apart waiting on a replacement. Where the front bumper mounts is pretty torn up also. Is there a decent way of protecting it? I know, don't run into curbs. Is there a better bumper or something?

I'd have that between a couple 2x4's and introduce a hammer.. Be good as new in no time!! :D Looks like ya got yer moneys worth out of the chassis, but seriously, you could prolly get it back fairly straight with a little southern manipulation!;)

Is it just that front piece, or is the whole thing thats bent?

RE: Bent chassis.

As far as I can tell from the pix, I think it's mostly contained to the circled area..

Ya thats what i thought, if its just there then bend it back and youll be good.

RE: Bent chassis.

If you notice the motor/exhaust pipe side, it is bent up also. I really don't want to mess with it. When I get another one I will. I'm going to try to take it to the track and have some fun with it. Look at pic 3,4, 6 and the last one.

Dakota,

Between a hammer and some pliers, you should be able to bend it back flat and straight. But once it has been bent, the aluminum becomes more malleable and "softer." You might try making something like this [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7416789]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7416789[/link].

bk, that is awesome. I'm not that good with metal to make that. Best I could do is to make something similar and mount it on. Unless............................................ ....................................... you want to make another one? I'd be willing to get one from you if you did. I would have to get someone to make one for me anyways.

Dakota, I think that bend that runs length wise, along the side of the chassis, comes that way from the factory? Not positive, but alot of them have that bend, as it adds support/strength to the chassis.. But either way, you could get it back in shape for a spare or to bash with, no problem!!Though a new one would be bestif ya plan to race or get serious with it!!

BK,Thats some nice metal work!!THATis the kind of stuff that makes this hobby such fun!!I love seeing other folks projects and see what they come up with to solve problems with these little cars!!Nice job!!

It is nice isn't it? Wish I was that good at working with metal. I'm not. So I'm gonna have to come up with something else to use. I wonder if I can rig a Traxxas Rustler RPM front bumper to it. That away it takes most of the punishment I dish out. May just work. Luckily for me, I have a Traxxas Rustler with that bumper. I'm gonna try it. I'll let yall know.

dakotanut i put the chassis on my shop if you are still needing one.

I got one from a guy locally. He had a spare. I was shocked about it. He has quite a few Redcats and races them.

Hey that's great if you guys need anything let me know. Have fun!

RE: Bent chassis.

Sure will. I'm thinking about racing mine. I broke one of the body mounts in the back last night. They are cheap. I tried to race it but didn't do so well. I need a truck body. This Hummer just doesn't cut it. Any ideas what I'll need to make this thing work at the track. It is loose and clay. Last night it was sticky clay cause of all of the rain.

RE: Bent chassis.

I would say shocks if you havent got them yet, they definitely help, but most important is practice. Thats the single thing that will get you around the track better and faster. Going slow and getting around it is faster than going fast and flipping or crashing.

RE: Bent chassis.

I may 1 lap around the track with it. Do yall think this Volcano is ok to race with?

chevyderek72 09-27-2009 10:23 PM

RE: Bent chassis.

You can do it, ive taken my brushless volcano to the track, and my brushed vortex and they do good. Main thing is tires. Im runnin the stockers that have the wavy tread on them and the pins on the vortex and they do ok, but would do tons better with the correct wheels. Just take her out and have fun.
